Also, Comic Con gets tons of toy dealers, and I have no doubt most of those guys could fill a booth with Joe stuff. |

One of the The Club employees said last year when speaking to them that they will never do a Convention in Las Vegas as it is not as "Kid Friendly".

I'm not sure about that. I've been to at least a half dozen specialty toy stores in the LA area that have a lot of Joe stuff. Heck, I went to a tiny Joe show in Sacramento last year, and there was something like 30 dealers there, all overflowing with vintage (both 4" and 12") Joe stuff.

Yeah, it just seems to be self-fulfilling Q&A. When you ask a group of people who are happy with the current situation if they would like change, the answer is almost always going to be a resounding "no." Opinions from outside of that group aren't given more than a passing consideration because they're not part of the group. It's a recipe for stagnation.

Honestly, and I'm not just saying this because I live here, but I think Brian underestimates the amount of dealers he could get in Denver, or some of the other locales he ignores. The other thing Brian fails to consider is cost for us. A plane ticket to Denver is a lot cheaper because it's a hub for United airlines. Some of the con locations in the past have cost quite a lot ticket-wise. I couldn't make it to the Rhode Island con because plane tickets were outrageous.

I think the biggest problem with Denver is that the next big city is like 6-8 hours drive away. A lot of people prefer to drive to the cons so that it's easier to get their stuff home, and by putting it in Denver, you're really cutting down on the number of people that could get there.

NYC. Just a hop from the original Pit, located in Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island.

I chatted with Brian about future locations & some of the highlights were: 1) The number one consideration is getting dealers. Brian sad flatly he'll never do the Pacific Northwest & likely not Denver or SLC because of their remoteness. This also makes LA and California in general unlikely. No matter how much there is to do in the city, he can't get dealers out there, and no dealers, no con. Quote:
2) The second consideration is how good of a hotel deal they can get. Bigger cities tend to have plenty of "weekend traffic" and aren't as needy to rent out their conference halls. Places like Indy work perfectly because (and this is in Brian's words) the conference halls and all those rooms would be sitting empty on an off weekend in early April. Cities that have hotels that stay full on the weekends are likely not to cut them as good of a deal. This elimates Las Vegas, NYC, Boston & Philly. Brian's exact words were, "we'll never do Las Vegas" for this reason.
