Hey all, first time posting.
Can someone explain to me the logistics of the Customizing Class? The brochure says its on Thursday from 9am to 5pm and that its limited to 30 people. Is the class really 8 hours long and only 30 collectors out of the hundreds attending can participate? or is it a series of 1.5 hour classes that take place during that window? Also, the Real American Hero package says everything is included except the movie, but then later on the Custom Class section has it listed as a separate cost of $65.00 Is registration first come first serve on the day or is it an option when you're registering for the con itself? Maybe my reading comprehension is shit, but i'm completely confused. Any light you could shed on this would be much appreciated. this will be my first con and i'm trying to make the most of it. thanks in advance |

These are great questions and I'm wanting to know the same things. 8 hours sounds like some serious good stuff, but is it really like that or 4 hours for lunch break or something. Do you get to make your own figure and leave with the one figure? Or do they lead you in making a certain figure?

Hello Welcome to the Tank and to answer your question. The registration is first come first serve, the cutomizing class is extra and is that long and when the slots are filled no more are allowed in hope this helps.

For the $65.00 you can make a fig. Last year My sister made a female Joe and a a 3 headed timber wolf to me its not worth the extra cash. You want to learn how to customize watch YouTube... you will get the same results

The same customizing class for Transformers is completely amazing as they learn to make a Bot - all make the same bot. These sell for hundreds afterwards as they often make an extremely limited edition toy.
Sad that JoeCon doesn't offer the same experience. I could see them teaching how to make some pretty unique Joes.

I taught the class for a couple of years and focused one year on casting (it was a seminar format) and the following year on how to make molds, basic sculpting an so forth. Destro attended the second class, but most others skipped it deeming it not worth the cost (but the few people who did attend still look me up to this day and ask about another class).
For BotCon, they get an unassembled and unpainted exclusive figure that they are taught how to assemble and paint. These kits can sell for $1,000. For JoeCon, they give you a limited amount of supplies, and there are bins of random figures parts and pieces to assemble and customize. Very basic, but if you have no clue, then worth it. I spoke with Brian at BotCon this year about donating parts this year to the class (I did send some informally last year). I was thinking maybe an additional 5 random heads per person. Will comment again after I see if that's going to happen or not. |

Awesome, thanks for all your responses. Im leaning heavily towards attending the class, because i dont know thing 1 about customizing and i dont have alot of fodder to work with. i think better to make my mistakes there than destroying my own joes.
Follow up question for those who have been there before: what time should i plan on getting on line to register for this thing? seems like the chances of getting a spot are pretty slim. |

I'm a bit confused with this as well. I'm under the assumption that the Golden ticket will get me access to the customizing class considering how much it costs but you never know.
I'm also trying to figure out if the Aide's package includes the customizing class as well since it says "Admittance to all convention events except tours and movie" in the brochure. Anybody have any helpful input they can share? |

The only way to get access to the customizing class is to sign up for it specifically during registration. You can add it to your Golden ticket if that's what you choose to do, but it's an additional cost much like the tours that occur on Wednesday and Thursday.
I went to it two years ago, since I had no experience at that point in doing customs, it was well worth the money. Not sure I would pay to do it again, but I would recommend it to anybody that doesn't already do their own customs. The guys from Hasbro were really nice and informative.

Neither Golden ticket nor the Aides package will get you in. The custom class is a separate thing run by Hasbro. It's $65 per person. I have taken my son the last two years and paid $130 each time for both of us to get in. You sign up for it when you register. It's fun and frustrating. There's usually a mad dash for parts and you always end up looking at the sweet peices someone else grabbed. For example, it really difficult to make a femal figure because those parts go first. That said, you do get tips on painting and how to crack a torso. Last year Dave Proctor did a little casting tutorial. It would be very cool if they put together a bag of parts for each person as a starting place. Then letus at the parts.
