Hey everyone.
Not too sure who is all going to the Con, since it is awhile off. My wife and I made the Orlando Con this year (first for both of us). I had plenty to keep me occupied, but the wife had to keep herself occupied (thankfully met a great Tanker and our wives hit it off). So, we plan on going to next years Con, my wife is going to looking into different activities for the spouses. Also, she is planning to graduate her Master's program on May 5th and hopefully pass her Nurse Anesthetist boards before we go, so I look forward to celebrating that achievement with her there. I lived there for ten years, so I have a couple of leads for her, but I left before Katrina and have only been back once since. Some of the things she is going to look into are: -Cooking classes that feature the local cuisine (a good friend of ours does this every time she visits NOLA). -The aquarium of the Americas (great for families as well as adults) -The Audobon Zoo (loved it when I lived there). -Going to find out if the old Civil War fort museum on Chef Menteur pass is reopened. (another historical place I liked when I lived there, very educational). -Possibly the haunted New Orleans or the Cemetary tours. -Maybe even the Riverboat dinner cruise (foods okay, very romantic)(come on guys, our wives are sacrificing for us by coming, we gotta do something nice for them). -Possibly a Spa day for the girls, see second note above. We are going to gather pricing as we go along, also maybe look into group rates if enough of the spouses might be interested. Please note, these are not club sanctioned activites. We won't be paying for anyone, that is up to them. This is just something that the spouses and girl/boyfriends can enjoy. Something for the non-Joe fan to enjoy. Let me know if you may be interested, we have awhile to the Con to gather this info. Answers won't be up tomorrow. I'll update pricing as we get it. Guys, we know we'll have a good time. Let's not forget our loved ones that put up with our plastic crack addiction. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Con. Also, here are a couple of websites that we found for Vacation Rentals while there. Great if you're going to be there for a couple of extra days (which I highly recommend if you can). That way you have a kitchen and extra room. http://www.homeaway.com/ http://www.vrbo.com/ My wife and I also signed up for the Groupon offers in New Orleans and are starting to receive some decent ones that won't expire til after the con dates. It will save you some money as well as spread out some of the activities costs. Last edited by WildWeaselZ06; 01-05-2012 at 01:18 AM.. |

Holding for pricing info as we get it.
-Chef Menteur pass fort-Fort Pike $2.00 admission, free kids under 13 and senior citizens. http://www.neworleansmuseums.com/dir...ocationID=1258 -Riverboat Natchez Jazz and dinner Cruise- http://www.steamboatnatchez.com/dinner_cruise.html Pricing Adult///Children 6-12///Children 2-5 Evening/Jazz Cruise Only $41.00///$20.50///Free Evening/Jazz Cruise*&* Dinner $67.50///$33.75///$13.25 National WWII Museum http://www.nationalww2museum.org/plan-a-visit/ Go to the above page for pricing info. Ranges from $11.00-24.00 per adult for each activity The Audobon Zoo, Aquarium, and Insectarium http://www.auduboninstitute.org/ The above link has the full pricing info for each of the locations, including combo packages. After living in NOLA for ten years, I always really enjoyed these places (except the insectarium, never been there, that was built after I left N'awlins). Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World http://www.mardigrasworld.com/ Great place to see how the Floats of Mardi Gras are made, these things are great and rather elaborate sometimes. Tickets are about $19.95 adults. New Orleans Cemetery and haunted tours http://tour-new-orleans.com/ Never a huge fan of the haunted tours, but that's just me. I do however thoroughly the Cemetery tours. A lot of interesting History to found in these. Tickets are about $10.00 a head. Last edited by WildWeaselZ06; 05-14-2012 at 06:49 AM.. |

If i get to go I might be down for some of that. Is there any sites you would recommend for some one interested in the war of 1812/ Battle of new Orleans?

In Chalmette, I believe there is a site that I've heard referenced as one of the Battle sites. Not 100 percent sure, it's been awhile.

what are the days planned?
unlike Orlando, where the con schedule was shifted t include Disney time. Im not sure New Orleans will have the same schedule... also, the club usually has two tours (one Wednesday before the con, and one Thursday as an alternative to the customizing class) the events you're planing could be offered to the club as Ideas for an official tour. other than that, the best additional time would be Friday evening. (Saturday evening being the Casino night and awards dinner, and the Crappy figure brigade meeting) That being said, I think the ideas would be wonderful alternative functions for Joecon Spouses ( would they be Kid friendly?) scheduled any day. once they are finalized, you could always unofficially post the info up, not just on Hisstank but also on the club's boards and other boards to get others involved.

Our main purpose is to gather pricing and find out what the families would like to do rather than listen to a bunch of Grown men talk toys, lol. Also, Zarana, here is a link to that battlefield I was talking about: http://www.nps.gov/jela/chalmette-battlefield.htm Last edited by WildWeaselZ06; 10-31-2011 at 01:42 AM.. |

COOl Idea!
my point is, there are a lot of "unofficial activities" that comes along with joecon, feel free to create new ones to add tot he whole Joecon experience. (I may be interested in the riverboat dinner cruise, now that Im not solo anymore..) There are actually a lot of joebrs who have wives... this is a great idea!! DEFINETLY spread the word when you have some solid ideas. ..you may have just started a New Joecon club activity! "Joebros and the wives who love them"

What is funny, is that Collector's wives/significant others all tend to talk about our collections when they get together.. Stories of what someone has done or that they know more about G.I.Joe than they ever wanted to know.. the fact they can name a character based on description without realizing it, or if their wife/other hates it, loves it.. Etc..etc..
My Fiance often finds herself saying "And knowing is half the battle" every time someone says "And now you know". She will call me from work to ask if I have a certain figure or she will automatically add the new comics to my sub list when one pops up. Stuff like that gets discussed at these gathering. I find it humorous that even though they go off to do things away from the Con.. they still end up talking about Joes. Could also be that this is the one thing in common all these women have.
