Howdy all,
I was considering upgrading my display with some Moducases but can't justify the expense so quickly after buying my current set-up. I'd like to know if anyone has been able to find a large acrylic case that should be able to hold the Dragonfly (approx. 35x14x14) that could be wall mounted or could sit on top of my current display. I'd really like to keep it enclosed as frequent dusting isn't high on my list of things I enjoy about collecting. Current set-up for reference. |

Honestly man, your cheapest bet is going to be having plexiglass cut to size and assembling it yourself with silicone. All of that aside, your display is looking killer, man!

Thanks, I took your recommendation in those strip lights and like how they look. I just pulled all of my boxes and put them on top of the display and will frame the ARAH comics to get them on the wall.
Thanks for the recommendation on diy...it might be a pita but better than any of the alternatives I've found so far. |

I looked for something last year that could fit the HISS lengthwise displayed (nose to tail) in preparation of setting up my display and the options I found was moducase which are expensive, building something (which is cheaper but plexiglass is expensive so it's still probably ~60-70% of the cost of the moducase), or there are custom display box manufactures but those were even more expensive than moducase (they seem to specialize in smaller stuff like hat boxes or displaying a baseball or football. For the dragon fly you might be able to make an existing case work like a plexiglass acoustic guitar case that mounts to the wall.
The tutorials for DIY on YouTube seem to range from buying metal framing and plexiglass and doing a DIY box/moducase, cutting the plexiglass panels and chemically welding the plexiglass edges to make a cover for a base or the garage shelving option (which doesn't fit your requirement). I ended up going the moducase route after much debate and they should be arriving anytime now (I ordered during the end of year sale last year and they have taken a full year to get, which worked out in my case anyways since the space I was going to use wasn't ready yet anyways) so I don't have a POV yet on them. I was fortunate that I was going to go the Ikea Milsbo route early on but they were never in stock so never invested in them and when I saw dimensions of the HISS I knew I would want something bigger. Anyways good luck with whatever option you pick and love your existing display! |

The dead space at the top of my display was bothering me. I decided against moducase as I've only had my current set up for less than a year, but finding a case that would fit above my large cases but below the overhang running through the room was painful and looked expensive. I ended up buying three fishtanks from Petco, building a base and top from basswood sheets covered in felt, and getting some lights. All in, probably 110-120 bucks and would be cheaper for future iterations (less wastage and still have some materials left over).

Thanks S. I will probably get two more to put up. I lack the mechanical talent and tools to make my own shelves and this is an easy enough option to keep the dust off. The felt covering covers up any issues with my board cuts while helping seal the top of the case.

I don't have anything to contribute, but to say that is a killer setup. Love that it doesn't look cluttered. Awesome job!

I run an air purifier in my home office where I display all my figures and I still get a thick coat of dust all over everything in no time at all. So if anyone solves the dust problem, I'd love pointers, because moving all my figures to clean shelves and stands does not appeal to me.
Unfortunately, I don't have space to add glass case cabinets like the ones in the OP's photos. Those look fantastic!
