I was wondering if a signed carded figure looses its value do to "Defacing" because of the writing or signature?

Possibly with grading it may drop the number but the value to a collector may be more. I'm not sure though. I think AFA may consider that something to take away from "mint"

me personally, an autograph only has sentimental value to the one who got it signed

For me it doesn't make a collectible any more appealing.

Well personally, anyone can sign something as someone. Same goes for certificates to "authentify" it... so signing does nothing for me.

I've been trying to get my 25th MOC Firefly signed by Firefly, but he's really hard to track down.........
Seriously, though, I think there are some good points here. It's like baseball cards. An autograph may make the card worth more to some, but it does void the "mint" condition of the item. Also, georox had a good point. Rumor has it that Pete Rose used to have 2 elderly ladies sign his stuff for him. Also, in the case of toys based on fictional characters, I don't think there is anyone's autograph that can be added to the product to make it more appealing. At least with baseball cards, or with movie figs based on real actors, you know that those are real people signing those. I mean, having the V.P. of Hasbro sign your figure's card means a lot less than, say, having Sienna Miller sign your carded RoC Baroness.
