Hi everyone. I was referred here from reading some reddit posts and figured this is best spot to ask. Parents are cleaning house and I have some of my old toys still there. GI Joes being part of it. Star Wars and train sets but I'll need to find where to sell those.
So my question is what's best way to sell my set? I have large pieces. I have the USS Flagg and Terror Drome, Skystriker, Rattler, Conquest and Mauler. That's what I can remember off top of my head. Along with few other smaller vehicles but not many of those. Have quite a few figures but i'm sure by this time the elastic bands in them are broken. All vehicles should be pretty much complete 100% complete as I was good add keeping their the big stuff acessories like missiles. There might be figures missing a gun though not too sure. I played with them a lot. Is it feasible someone would buy these as a big set? Break it up? Is there places I can get used prices for them? The carrier should be in prestine condition and the Terror Drome since i just had those set on floor of my room as a kid since they were so big. There's no sense me sitting on all this stuff when it can be enjoyed by a real collector(s). I enjoyed them as a kid. Thank you for any help. |

One option is to make a list and post it here, most of us are pretty easy going and pleasant to conduct deals with, and most of us are looking for something- I am after a Terror Drome (and a few remaining figures), myself. The other online option is going to be eBay, which will net you the best prices, but can be a headache for various reasons, and can be costly in terms of fees. The other option is to haul it in to a comic/collectible shop, and I never recommend doing that- they'll give you pennies on the dollar, especially if they can tell you're not really up to snuff on the going prices of things. Lastly, while this is a G.I. Joe -themed site, many of us are into multiple lines, so your Star Wars, etc. certainly would have a home in our B/S/T section as well.

Don't worry too much about any damaged or broken rubber bands ("O-rings") in the figures. It's well known that they wear out, but luckily replacements are easy enough to get, and many collectors probably have a lot of spares already for that reason. Most buyers really won't mind a broken O-ring.
Also, this site is a good resource if you want to verify if a figure or vehicle is complete: https://www.yojoe.com/ They also have an identification system if you have any loose figure accessories floating around and you don't know who they belong to: https://www.yojoe.com/action/whobit/

This is just my opinion, but having the Flagg may make it easier to sell as a lot; as I see it, anyone who is motivated enough to pay shipping on a Flagg--or is willing to come pick it up in person--may be motivated enough to be willing to take the entire lot. Take that opinion with a grain of salt, though.

Thank you for chiming in with some info on here. I was thinking of parting out the smaller stuff as you mentioned. The smaller vehicles and figures. Maybe the figures as just one lot. eBay is out of the question. I just closed my account with them while dealing weeks with them and my account. I used to sell there years back and was great but now...eesh. They have as much fees as ticketmaster. Apparently on ebay once you sell one item now you become a seller account and ebay refuses to let you delete your banking info. once it's like that. Closing account is only option. 20 years of ebay...done with them. I'd rather sell in locations like here where it's all fans of GI Joe.
So the smaller stuff is easy to ship and box. But items like the carrier and dome would be more difficult to ship. That's my concern. I know the carrier breaks up into smaller pieces but still...it's came in a huge box to begin with. I guess I need to go pick up the smaller stuff and take pics and post here see if any one would be interested in them. We don't have many hobby/collectible shows here so selling it that way would be bit hard unless I travel 4 hours away from here. As for Star Wars most are small ships except the Ewok Village and the Imperial Shuttle being the larger ones. I have quite a bit of those figures too. Perhaps you'd be interested in the Terror Drome if I could figure how to ship it well lol. I already ship heavy stuff but those are wooden so they can take a beating in the mail. Plastic is a whole other monster. Thank you again for giving me some tips. I guess next step is to bring this stuff home and take pics of the smaller stuff and Dome. I don't remember if the Terror Drome came disassembled when I got it or it was one big piece. |

AFA parting it out vs. selling it as a set, if you have a bit of time, part it out, you'll make more.

It's all good, man. I definitely agree with your points on selling as a lot vs. breaking it up. Anything and everything will sell individually to somebody, but that takes time. Breaking some smaller items up into lots may be a more efficient compromise; buyers may be willing to take a few things they don't need if the price is right, as many of them have the time/energy/networks to flip the things they don't want.
This is just my opinion, but having the Flagg may make it easier to sell as a lot; as I see it, anyone who is motivated enough to pay shipping on a Flagg--or is willing to come pick it up in person--may be motivated enough to be willing to take the entire lot.
