UPDATE: I now have adapters for both the vintage and modern-era builds that allows independent operation of the wings and gear. The control knob operates the gear and the wings move as a pair when you position either one by hand. Full range of motion is maintained and no permanent modifications are required. The designs are different but the prices are the same.
I also make a lot of other replacement/upgrade parts for both versions of Skystriker, including targeting pods, moving tailhooks, engine nozzles, cockpit interiors, and more. Just ask if you are interested. -------------------- I have finalized my design for a modified landing gear and wing sweep mechanism for the vintage Skystriker which allows the wing sweeping to function independently from the landing gear so it's ready for sale now. This is a "drop-in" solution that does not require any permanent modification to the Skystriker. The landing gear are controlled by the knob/handle as usual and the wings are controlled directly by hand. Move one wing and the other will move along with it and they stay in place when you let go. The cost for one set is currently $35 plus shipping and PayPal fees. PM me to place an order. ----------------------------- ----------------------------- Details: The control knob still controls the landing gear as usual, but now the wings can be moved however you like no matter whether the gear is up or down. It starts off pretty simple and familiar: But a couple of specialized pieces make all the difference: It consists of the main gear control plate with knob, a new wing synchronizing bracket, and a modified retaining plate to hold it all in place: This solution does not require ANY permanent modification to the Skystriker and it screws in right in place of the original parts. And this is how it looks installed in the plane... Wheels down, wings forward (just like usual): And now the fun part: Wheels down, wings swept back: Wheels up, wings left off for better visibility, but would be swept back (again, like normal): Wheels up, wings left off for visibility but would be forward: I beefed up the thickness of the front end of the gear control plate for improved stability, but it still fits just fine between the pillars and behind the RIO seat: All installed and working, parked with swept wings now:

brilliant! we must be telepathic !
i had started this mod but could not muster the carriage moving the wings sliding over the landing gear tray... so i gave it up. sold the skystriker and years later I heard about how the new owner discovering that the wings had to be posed by hand, left and right separately, using orings to keep them in place... i still have the rack parts here... great job Zap! clean and well illustrated. hats off. |

Awesome. That's much better than having to break or remove the original mechanism. Does it work with the 30th Skystriker as well?

Thanks, guys!
And no, sadly it's not built for the modern-era Skystriker. I'd love to make one for that version as well but I don't know how to open the main body without breaking tabs off and/or grinding/cutting the sonic welds or glue or whatever it is they did to it. I've only seen risky and somewhat destructive means of disassembly and I haven't dared to try it.

Just picked one of these up from Zap last week with a few other skystriker accessories. Haven’t had time to install it yet but it seems like a quality print and I’m looking forward to getting it installed.
Thank you! |

Thanks! Thanks! I didn't realize you were a 'Tanker. Let me know if you need anything else. Make sure the logos are all facing the same direction when you install the mechanism parts for proper operation.

My brother modded our sky striker when we were kids to do this. Elegant drop in solution, too bad about the 30th being so hard to get into. You should build a two seater cockpit for that!
