We have hundreds of orders for this set in the system right now at the lower price, and they will all be honored. Only a few that met a combination of our internal criteria were canceled. Quote:
We knew from the start that there would be additional demand for the Defense set, relative to the Assault set, which is why the former was priced higher right from the start. We prefer not to go overboard on the price adjusting. We would have preferred not to have needed to price it even HIGHER but clearly that was necessary to prevent us from getting too far into the hole on the less desirable set. I would be perfectly happy to sell our entire allocation through as sets of two at our excellent discounted price which is still the lowest price I have seen so far, but of course we all know it isn't going to work that way, because there are a few people here who must have more Alley-Vipers than everyone else. Three orders out of several thousand have been canceled at our discretion due to the purchase of quantities of the "hot item" exceeding reasonable limits. (I believe two of those people happen to be posters here.)
You may refer to our Help / Policies section where we reserve the right, again - at our discretion, to limit quantities at any time, the purpose of which is to achieve a roughly even sell-down of inventory so that we are not stuck with "peg warmers". We also use price adjusting to achieve the same goal. If we did not take these steps, we would have been out of business years ago. This is at least the upteenth message-board blow-up we've had over the same issue and as you can see we're still in business. No RIP, no "this is the end this time." The reason for this is that we're clearly serving the best interests of our wider customer base and achieving the primarily goal that keeps us in business - and that is actually generating a return on investment and not storing half a million dollars worth of unsaleable product in our warehouse. Those of you who wish to purchase large quantities of only whatever is hot, for whatever your reasons may be, will not like our policy because it does not allow you to take advantage of us, it does not work in your particular interest. Naturally we encourage you to patronize the business which best serves your interest.

I saw the mods asked for a chill after I posted this. I request that you allow my response and I will not say another thing regarding this subject. I cleaned it up too.... : )

Here's another sad thing...Hasbro.com is not exactly considered the best (or worst to be fair) when it comes to toy websites but they know how to place limits on items at time of purchase. They deal in many more diverse product lines then you do and they have the business acumen to place limits on "hot items." It looks like over 50% of your website is just GI Joe stuff and you didn't know that the cobra 7 pack was going to be hot? By your own admission, you have been through this "upteenth" time and you still haven't tried this as a solution? Take care and continue the vigil to fend off those pesky advantageous consumers. I believe if we were not offering sets of two at a very discounted (the best?) price, you would have legitimate grounds for complaints of scalping / taking advantage of the situation / etc., but that is not the case. If you start seeing hundreds of other complaints about order cancellations then you may also be able to legitimately raise the issue of shenanigans, but that also will not be happening since we only canceled ~3 orders. If you are philosophically offended by our method for dealing with uneven case pack-outs relative to demand then you are obligated to take whatever actions you feel are necessary. This issue hasn't driven us out of business in 10 years, but if it eventually does, so be it. We will move on to other areas where we are not stuck in the middle of a financially unwinnable situation. Last edited by coreystinson; 07-09-2009 at 12:47 PM.. |

Oh and CIAD, I am not trying to troll here at all nor am I trying to incite a lynch mob. To respond to your comment about balls though, I actually did email the small joes customer service before I posted a thing about them on this board. Oddly, I did not hear a thing back from them but Corey had plenty of time to post here to defend his actions in a nice, lengthy post or two. If they only cancelled three orders as he claimed then one would think that he would have had time to respond to an email from one of those three folks or at least email those three folks and let them know why their orders had been cancelled before coming here to blame us greedy customers for trying to saddle him with product and take advantage of him as a seller. |

Your suggestion belies a lack of experience in dealing with the consumer. While this is a fine idea in theory, it is met with great hostility in practice. You have no idea how unreasonable people can be when they do not get their way 100%, especially in a situation like this where customer feels they have locked in a super deal only to be caught by the fine print, if you will.
YES… most consumers can be insatiable when they don't get what they want; since most purchases are bought on impulse that seems to be warranted. I'm empathic to creating customer service miracles! Despite your past dealings, you should attempt to meet these three customers half-way... especially since you now have an audience. You've stuck to your 'normal' approach and received much slack. Why not appease these three customers with an option that attempts to create a WIN/WIN for everyone? Whether they decline that option or not you would’ve shown customer consideration and upheld buyers’ confidence. Last edited by Mr. Focus; 07-09-2009 at 01:51 PM.. |
