Hey, I thought I would just throw this out there and see if there are any bites.
I am trying out a new dyeing technique that I am hoping to use in place of acrylic painting for details. The theory is that using PVC cleaner (MeK, primarily) with some specialty dyes I picked up that are designed for petroleum products will allow me to do a targeted delivery of dye with as much precision as acrlyic painting, but with the penetration and durability of dyeing (and hopefully even better penetration/durability than standard dye methods because of the materials in use). I have done a test run on some spare parts I have, and so far it's working out extremely well with the main exception of the shoulder/elbow rings that just aren't taking the dye so far. Here are some of the results: 50th Spirit's arm with dye mix painted on over his sleeve (using a q-tip, so it's a bit sloppy): Comparison shot between a brush-on dyed 50th Spirit torso/arms and an unaltered 50th Spirit: 50th Hawk's web gear with dye mix painted on, leaving the silver clasps untouched on the bottom-left of the photo: I would like to test this method on as many ME figure parts (even web gear fodder bits) as I can, from as many disparate lines and in as many different base plastic colors as possible in order to gauge the efficacy of this new method I am developing. But I don't want to go broke buying up fodder figures just to arbitrarily put dye stripes across them. So, I am hoping some of you 'Tankers out there are sitting on a mound of wrecked parts (from boil/pops gone wrong, torsos cracked open but left with stress marks, cracks, or breakage, or whatever else you may have done to wreck a part). Things that you can't bring yourself to throw out...but that you have no use for and are willing to donate to the cause for "R&D" on this stuff. I will pay shipping if you have enough bits to make it worth the cost, but since I am asking for wrecked parts that I plan to further ruin with testing I have no plans to pay anything beyond the shipping for the stuff. If there are any interested parties, please PM me. Thanks!
