I'm new here and only signed up to post this ad. Basically I had a house fire and bunch of stuff is going in the trash. This includes all my GI Joe vehicles, USS Flag and my Terror Dome(?) from the early to mid 80's. Anyways there is a bunch of stuff and accessories. I am keeping the figures. I don't want to see the rest just get thrown away. I'm hoping someone in Minnesota will want it and can possibly clean it up.
This stuff was in my basement closet. But I'm sure it has a good layer of smoke on it. And some minimal water damage as it was off the ground. |

Still available. I can't believe there isn't anyone in Minnesota that would want this stuff.

Yes and let's discuss how this “deal” went down, now I truly am not trying to impugn the original listing poster and I do absolutely feel awful about how he has had to deal with a house fire. But I do feel there is value in illuminating what had transpired so that others in the community with the aid of that transparency make their own value judgements regarding the situation.
Please keep in mind that I had originally contacted the seller on 4-12-16 at 4:42 AM after establishing a profile so I could respond to him, with a follow-on PM sent as you can see from the message thread. I then had actually had to exchange some message with him to convince him to consider exchanging with someone from out of state. To allay some of his concerns about the lot going to someone from out of state I had even shared some personal background regarding what was prompting me to get back into Joes after about a 25 year absence and that this would be my first find to help start a collection that I could enjoy with my 3 1/2 year old son. "I saw your post about wanting these to go to someone in Minnesota, which is understandable. But I thought I would follow up I by saying I am some crazy collector, not that there is anything wrong with guys that collect that just would not fly in my house with four children and three of them being 3 1/2 years, 18 months and 3 months old. I am actually just getting back into GI Joe as I am a 100% Service-Connected Permanent & Totally disabled Combat Veteran and I am currently in the process of being medically retired after 15 years in the Army due to injuries sustained in Iraq & Afghanistan. So my plan if you would be willing to let me have the toys was to restore them (which is a nice cathartic activity for me) resticker them and then along with my son get to play with them, which is a good activity for him because it teaches him how to take care of something and he loves everything Army at this point! I know it sounds stupid that I would want to drive all the way to Minnesota for some toys but after spending over four years in combat I often struggle to connect with people even my own children. So when I found something they are into I kind of try to use it as a bridge. I apologize if this is on overshare for you but I was just thinking if I was in your shoes I would want a good reason for giving my stuff away to someone out of state, which if that is how you still feel that is totally understandable." Now Regarding The Correspondence Pertaining To The "Deal" My text will be in Blue and the Sellor in Red Yesterday at 2:43 PM trevbuck: "I am about 15 miles north of St. Paul. I can take some pictures. There was 1 other guy interested. But first come first serve. He was also in IL." I replied at 3:41 PM yesterday "that sounds great that is about 4 hours from me but I needed to head up that way anyway to get our newborn a military ID card which I can then do on the way at Ft McCoy or Ft Snelling. I really appreciate you being willing to pass these on to someone not from MN, I know my son will really enjoy restoring and playing with these items with me. Are there certain days of the week it would be better to meet up with you? So I can start planning the trip up?" I followed up at 5:57 PM today "I spoke with Household 6 (my wife) and my buddy and I can make the trip up there anytime between tomorrow and all of next week except Monday and probably Wednesday. Just let me know what fits best with your schedule" Today at 7:33 PM trevbuck replied "Really anything would work. Just know if we pick a time I expect you to be there." Then out of the blue 6 minutes later at 7:39 despite the fact that I had already confirmed multiple times that I planned on coming the next day since he told me the day prior that I could have the lot "Someone wants to come tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.' Then after I had replied reminding him that I could come tomorrow and he had already said I could have the lot trevbuck at 8:19 PM today "Sorry man. This other guy was just a little quicker in making a deal. I can tell you really want it. If for some reason it falls through you're 2nd in line." my final reply after I had re-forwarded his previous message history hoping there was a mistake "This is the other message that you sent 6 minutes before you sent the one saying another guy who had contacted you after me was coming in the AM when I have been stating that I could come as early as tomorrow. I am sorry to be imprudent but this really kind of stinks after you said I had the lot last night I even told my kids. The other guy from IL has mounds of stuff looking at his page this was going to be my first move to really get back in and play with these with my kids." This was my first experience trying to make an exchange on these threads and I am very disappointed. I have screen shots available if verification is needed. I know that we as Americans have the ability to do do business with whomever we please that is a freedom that I have proudly defended with my life in two of this nations wars sustaining permanently disabling injuries in the process. But this just seems like a poor way to deal with someone (myself) when I had acted in nothing but good faith, especially after I had made the effort of moving appointments at the VA tomorrow, making other arrangements for my wife to be able to pick up 2 of our 4 kids tomorrow when she already has the infant to care for and making sure there was someone available to open the PTSD support group I founded with another wounded vet in case I ended up running late coming back tomorrow. I realize he could not of known that but when you tell someone that you are giving the lot to them, but you want to get it gone soon I feel there should be at least a reasonable expectation that they would have to make some form of arrangements. I guess I feel at the end of the day that last point real nails this thing for me which is the simple lack of consideration which I know is endemic in America nowadays, I guess it is the thing that will be most difficult for me to accept as I transition into civilian life. Ohh well I guess I can look forward to telling my son in the AM that I was mistaken about getting a bunch of cool stuff. What a very poor way to learn a lesson about dealing with others in this community... |
