i was wondering the same thing myself, i was going to hit up a few of them over the summer but was alweys to lazy, i dont think you would find as many vintage joes anymore as mabe 5 years ago, considering everyone who still has them knows there worth money and sticks them right on ebay, but im sure there is a few people who dont know, i wonder this same thing about flea markets. it would be nice to score some joes for cheap.

I made an amazing score earlier this summer. Guy was selling mostly vintage star wars (which I made a huge score on as well).. but off to the side was a bin with tons of complete 82-85 era joes. Straight arms.. complete zartan.. the thing that got me excited was stormshadow with all his weapons. His torso was yellow, but I had one at home that was white that I could swap out.
I then spied a Firefly, his backpack, explosive.. and the phone!! Many of the figures had broken elastics.. not from play wear from what I could tell, but perhaps being left in a garage for 20 years. He let me have the entire thing for 40$. All file cards were included along with parts of the card art that he had kept. I got out of there quick and spent the rest of the weekend lining up weapons and parts to figures. The only thing I was missing was fireflys green gun. Im sure it must have fallen out when he was setting up his table. |

I'll have to say morbidaj find is very rare these days. I think most Joe stuff you might find at a yard sale would be VvV or JvC stuff. The vintage stuff was sold off long ago (in the 90's) or put on Ebay. Most people (even parents and grandparents) have some inkling that "older" toys are worth some money now.
Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions to this. I answered an ad in the newspaper about some vintage Star wars stuff somebody was selling about two years ago. I went over and checked it out and it was an older couple who were cleaning out their basement and were selling off their kids old toys. It was all in decent condition but they weren't giving it away. i ended up spending a good bit on it, but it was rare so I took it. Pre Ebay just about any weekend you could find tons of old Joes, Star Wars, He-Man and other old lines at a yard sale. It's very rare these days.....but good score morbidaj |

Oh I agree it was rare. Ill get pictures together and post em. I have had a busy summer at work and havent really had time to get it all organized with pictures.
The guy was in his mid 30s and I guess was helping to clear out his parents house. He now collects pottery and tapestries.. and said he "didnt want to mess with ebay".. though he does buy and sell the pottery and tapestry stuff on ebay. I played dumb of course.. and had to make 3 trips to the bank to get more cash. He had a complete set with boxes of the micro ESB star wars figures.. I grabbed all of those.. and had a bunch of vintage star wars stuff I needed (including small head han solo). He had the darth vader carrying case for 5$.. my parents had thrown mine away so I grabbed that.. opened it up and in the weapon holder was a cloth jawa. bonus. |

-95% complete G.I. Joe Headquarters from 1992
-1983 Destro (no date stamp variation) -1985 Dusty (no weapons) -Dragonfly Helicopter (missing quite a few parts, not the '83 version though, it is the tan rerelease one...) -Lot of '90s Joes -Mauler M.B.T. Battle Tank w/ a bonus Dr. Mindbender figure (Tank works!!!) -90s Battle Wagon (not complete, but motorized feature works!) -I saw a 1980s B.A.T. at a yard sale, but the person wouldn't sell it to me... That's about it... |

I think most places are cleared out by now of the vintage stuff, but Im sure theres still alot out there. The thing you have to search for are areas/houses/communities that were built in the late 70's, early 80's, like my area, and alot of the people who were there were my age (im 26 right now), and have moved out and their parents are clearing the attic/basement out. Most of my scores were done in the mid 90s when I use to tag along with my brother to garage sales. Anyways just make sure the area you are looking arent too new.
