I'm not so much asking about AFA grades, but just a fair means of determining value. Specifically, I just dug out of my mom's basement a couple of vintage figures still on the card. They are v1 Firefly and Destro (83 or 84?). The figures are mint and complete, and still in the bubble. The only reason they were never opened is that they were gifts, but I already had each figure, so I kind of just shoved them in a box when I was a kid - not thinking of future value. As a result, each card has a substantial bend/crease down the middle.
I have seen some ebay sales where both figures have gone for a lot, when they are on mint cards/AFA graded cards. And I've seen decent price ranges quoted for each when listed as just MOC. My question is two-fold. One, these would still be considered MOC, as the figures themselves are mint (and unopened) - correct? Two, does a bend/crease down the middle of each card mean there is no additional value there other than the inherent value of the mint figure? And maybe a third question - other than going to ebay, what would be a good avenue for finding a home for these? I really don't have, and don't intend to start a collection of vintage joes (though I am smitten with the current 25A line), nor of carded joes (we like to play with ours). Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Post some pics if you can.I bet a tanker would take them in a heart beat. As far as the value goes, it depends on the amount of damage to the card. Also if you choose to sell to a tanker I will move this thread to the buy/sell/trade section for you.

Yes, the original term MOC would pertain to these figures. It's a pet peeve of mine when people start saying something isn't MOC or MIB because the packaging is messed up. People seem to get MOC and MOMC (Mint On Mint Card) confused.
I really think value all depends on the buyer. Someone may want a mint loose figure and this would be the perfect thing for them, but someone else (probably, like me) wouldn't mind a MOC version on a beat up card. Now I've heard that some times you can get more money if you take the mint figure off of the card as the thrashed card decreases the value. Personally, I don't subscribe to that thinking. My reason is because either way, you get a mint figure. So I would say a MOTC (Mint On Thrashed Card, I just made that up ) would be priced higher or equal to a MLC (Mint Loose Complete) figure depending on how bad the card is As for where to unload them? You can sell them here at Hisstank! In fact I wouldn't mind having both of those, but I collect cheaply, so you'll probably be better off selling to someone else |

Hey guys - thanks for the quick and helpful replies. I am at work, but I can try to post some pics when I get home, tonight or tomorrow.
Is there a process for posting items for sale here, other than simply posting (or moving, as was suggested) the post to the sale section? Is it simply to say here's what I have, is anyone interested? Or is it more formal? |

I apologize, by the way, for not being more knowledgeable about the site. I've been a member for awhile, but my main interest in the hobby as an adult is in customizing figs, and making sure I have a decent set of 25A figs for my one year old son to play with, when he's old enough. So much of my time on here is spent reviewing the awesome customs made by others, and making sure I'm aware when Hasbro punches out new figs.
As for my customs, this is off-topic, but I've not been able to find the right way to take suitable pictures for posting them, but once I do I intend to be a lot more active in that regard as well. |

Grrrrr....I'm a vintage collector and don't mind buying firefly and or destro. Word to the wise, if you want to get rich, better hang on to destro until the movie come out.

I will give TWICE the original purchase price on both. I am generous that way.

Here are pictures of the MOC Firefly. As I said before, the card has a substantial bend mark down the middle, but the figure is perfect.
