I watched the first episode of the MASS Device original 5-parter, today. This is always an intriguing series for me, because it seems to be more "Marvel" than "Hasbro". The sci-fi aspects, the blind guy, the slaves, the little scene with Snake-Eyes and Scarlett....etc.
It also got me thinking: if there had been a full season that year, what sort of stories would they have cooked up? More importantly, which characters would they have focused on? Basically, what would YOU have liked to see? Obviously, Stalker, Snake-Eyes and Gung Ho would've received much more animated "screen time" than what they ended up with. But beyond that, I'm curious if they could've run with guys like Short Fuse, Torpedo or Steeler as the main character for an episode or two. There's just so much intriguing stuff from that series that never got developed. So whatta' ya' think, sirs?

Even a short season, like the 13-episode kick-off for Transformers, would've yielded some interesting stories, I'm sure.
I'm betting we would've seen one episode devoted to the vehicle drivers (Steeler, Clutch, Grand Slam, Cover Girl and Ace at that point). I can easily see a Torpedo episode with lots of underwater stuf, and another would've put them in the arctic so Snow Job could have a spotlight. Everyone but Hawk had a rerelease in 1983, so all the original team members but him would've been used in healthy doses. It would've been nice to see who they paired up (Clutch and Rock'n Roll go hand-in-hand to me nowadays, but maybe they would've had Flash as Clutch's gunner and given them a friendship that we'd all take for granted now). Just as they adapted the Baroness so quickly into the Cobra fold, I wonder if we wouldn't have seen an episode devoted to Kwinn the Eskimo, or Dr Venom, mining characters from the comics for storylines that required someone other than Cobra Commander, Destro, or Major Bludd. Lastly, I think we would've seen Cover Girl attached to someone romantically. Which may not have been a great move, as I liked the relationship she developed with Shipwreck later on. |

If the 1983/84 cast had actually gotten a show, and not a mini-series, it would've been about spotlighting those characters, not replacing them. |

We would have had more disco music and star wars sounds.

I'm not much of an encyclopedia regarding the two full seasons of the cartoon...but wasn't there a Season 1 (1985) episode that spotlighted Airborne and Flash? That always seemed like an oddity to me. Think I only saw it once.
The 1985 episode "Jungle Trap" featuring Recondo seemed like it could've been produced in 1984, as I don't think it featured any cast members from 1985.

Yeah the 82-84 characters got the shaft when 85 came in. Hell they kill off Grunt, Short Fuze, Clutch and Steeler. Funny what happens to Zap? He did get his own episode in Cobra's Candidate. The rest of them got a raw deal.

You can see the change in Cobra Commander from being a devious mastermind (Cobra Stops the World) to a full blown lunatic (Lasers in the Night). Of course the DVD sets have the episodes in their airdate order, not production order. *Flint, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck, Snake Eyes V2, the Dreadnoks and Crimson Guard made their animated debuts earlier than their toy releases. |

I agree. Well maybe up to 19.;)
I would've like to have seen Joe Origins or first team mission together episode or one which explains how a recruit becomes a Joe or Cobra. I think it would been cool to have seen that.
