Random side note, why would an Army Ranger be nicknamed Beach Head?

Noob to the 'Tank and have tried a few replies which were deleted without explanation or possibly 'on hold for Mod review'???
Try again. Say to yourselves in a Sunbow Maj. Bludd accent "Cheers mates!" :-) Nothing has changed there, IMHO they are far superior than any modern visual entertainment offerings, streaming and movies included. Loved rewatching the 'M.A.S.S.' mini with "The Worms of Death" being the stand out episode. Special mention on simply curing SE's radiation poisoning with 'herbs' ;-) As a follow-up 'Revenge' was great with the cartoon introduction of Zartan and the 'Nok's. Although disappointed that Baroness has been relegated to 'Destro's girl'. She was such a prominent and assertive female evil-doer in 'M.A.S.S.'. I actually prefer her original cartoon costume of Cobra blue/yellow highlights to her iconic black uniform. Now deep into the regular series and just finished "The Gamesmaster". Haha what a weird episode with Baroness kidnapped from a hot-tub and most of the episode spent wrestling with Flint or Lady Jaye in the bikini she was taken in. 1980's toy based cartoon aimed at kids??? :-) Too true! If online nobody's get a kick out of poking fun at a kids cartoon that has become iconic over the decades since release, they just don't get it. |

A beach head is described as, "an area of land near the sea or a river that an attacking army has taken control of and from where it can move forward into enemy country:" Maybe they intended him to personify this role - that he'd go into enemy territory first and gain control over it. Why he'd wear so much wool at the beach though...

My take has always been his codename was inspired from WW2 D-Day, when the very first U.S. Rangers forged a 'beachhead' at Point Du Hoc.

Deeper into my Sunbow rewatch now, onto the episodes I can't remember from my teens.
Just finished the Season 1 two parter "World's without End". A bit of a strange Sci-Fi/Alternate Universe double episode. Enjoyable enough but the alternate history storyline is probably more at home in X-Men: The Animated Series than a Joe cartoon. |

So, a bit off topic, but I was rewatching "The Invaders" the other day which has the Joes teaming up with the Oktober Guard. I was curious why the Guardsmen were shouting "new pogodi." I asked my brother, who spent time in Russia and he immediately recognized it as "Nu, Pogodi!" (Ну, погоди!, "Well, Just You Wait!" in English). Apparently it was very popular animation in the Soviet Union, somewhat similar to road runner/coyote cartoons in the US.
For some reason I find this very bizarre yet fascinating that an American 80s cartoon would either pay homage to Soviet animation, or mock the Soviets, as the wolf would say "Nu, Pogodi!" as he unsuccessfully tries to get the rabbit. Regardless, a very well buried Easter egg. |

I may be part way there already.
"The Gods Below" = Joe's vs Cobra vs Egyptian Gods. "Primordial Plot" = Joe's vs Cobra vs Dinosaurs e.g. Jurassic Park. Seems Crichton borrowed from Sunbow Joe, Spielberg borrowed from him and then made Jurassic Park around 8 years later. j/k :-) Genre hopping and not really adventure & military Joe style. Even as an adult I'm enjoying the episodes, entertaining.
