Back at the height of the DC animated movie movement I was wondering why was damn near every animated feature was the Batman. Don't get me wrong I love the Batman. The Batman is my favorite comic book character, and out of the ones I've seen Under the Red Hood is best DC animated movie and an argument can be made that it's the best animated superhero movie ever made, but I digress.
As I was saying I was wondering why more animated features weren't made featuring other heroes and heroines from the DCU and I finally got my answer when I was watching the bonus content on a DCAU DVD. Simply put movies featuring the Batman did numbers and there was significant drop off with movies that didn't feature the Batman or Superman. Which got me to thinking. Is the JOE fandom big enough to support one shot animation based on comic book story arcs and original stories? Personally, I'd love to see animation based on the Borovian story arc, the COBRA Civil War, the Origin of SNAKE EYES or Operation: LADY DOOMSDAY. I would REALLY like to see a prequel set in WORLDS WITHOUT END universe explaining how we got there. If there is enough support for JOE animation does Hasbro think they would make money off of it? If Hasbro doesn't want to pay for it. They should hold a stop/playmotion contest, solicit work from content creators , pick a winner, buy some episodes from the winner then post them on the Hasbro YouTube page.

I don't know, but damn, we need some new media. Live action got no lasting traction (the last one bombed), and the last animation was what, 15 years ago? Jeez. Not optimistic.
And yet, hope springs eternal, doesn't it.

I personally think Larry Hama created a goldmine of material that would've made awesome animated films. Now that Skybound is involved in the comics, they might be the ones who get something moving - but - I feel like they'd start with their newer, Energon version of the team before we ever see Marvel ARAH or Sunbow revisited.

i would watch it if it werent about snake eyes, duke, and scarlet. i dont even want to see snake eyes.
i would buy the products if they were o-ring figures that blend with the vintage figures and look as great as the other o-ring companies right now. without a second thought. no matter who the characters were, even if it were snake eyes, just for more o-ring fodder. not via hasbro pulse. from a store. im fucking sick and tired of preordering toys. put them on a peg like lando calrissian or dont even bother. |

man, i may have had a pause where i wasnt buying or keeping up with what was going on in my toy interests, but i never stopped going down a toy aisle.
that's the biggest problem next to price; everything is preordered online or sold online. hasbro does a dumb thing like putting their o-ring anniversary figures in two packs on hasbro pulse and not on a shelf at walmart - then they wonder why nothing sold well enough. fucking duh, man. not everyone is committed to buying toys enough to join message boards and facebook groups to find out something is out there; but they do go buy a gallon of milk at walmart; and they may like to walk down a toy aisle. |

I'm surprised they don't just hire an animation studio to animate the old Marvel comics into a couple of shorts. All the fans are like 50. They wouldn't need to make it PG.
