Either side? I always thought the Dreadnoks had too many members? Elite in Cobra Command was getting too crowded.

All of BF2000 and Ninja Force. Never liked BF2000 and didn't think we needed more ninja, aside from Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes (and Jinx). Also, I know DT won't like this, but throw Zandar into the dead pile. I still find him entirely superfluous.

I didn't want the BF2000 to die, but I did want the subgroup to integrate into the Joes eventually. I liked how Hama gave a lot of use to Maverick outside of the team. I was surprised he died at the time, but I'm glad Dodger was the one to survive, because he had the best look. I just wish his story was followed up on.
Of the S.A.W. Viper victims, Crazylegs is the one I wish survived the most. My intro to the comic was the storyline with him, Wild Bill, Maverick, Zarana, and Thrasher. Crazylegs became a favorite of mine after that. I also think Doc should have never been out there to begin with. You don't send your only doctor out on a field mission like that. It was crazy to me as a kid, and still crazy to me now. Who should have died? Cross-Country for one, and not because of the confederacy fetish (At the time it happened). His figure was just ugly to me and his character wasn't interesting. How he survived when guys like Breaker, Crazylegs, Doc, and Quick Kick were killed off was very upsetting to me once upon a time. I actually agreed with a few of the characters Devil's Due killed off. I feel like Flash should have been killed off, but instead of Breaker during the original run. He was made redundant by the much cooler looking Sci-Fi and you can't really get around that his name is the same as a very prominent superhero. Skidmark was rightfully offed, because his name is a punchline and drivers are a dime a dozen. So throw in Rumbler, Wild Card, and a pilot in Dogfight (off brand Wild Bill) as well. I also would've offed Blowtorch. There were too many flamethrower characters, and its not a terribly important job to begin with. That he was never given another figure in the line and rarely used in the media makes him expendable. |

Duke and pretty much all the new characters in the 1986 "Wave 5" group, not-named Low-Light.
I know there are some fan favorites in there, but the new characters seem either redundant (Leatherneck, Iceberg, Dial-Tone, Lifeline, etc.) or silly (Dr. Mindbender, Serpentor and yes, Zandar and Zarana with "Zartan's Brother/Sister" listed as their specialty).

Scarlett always bugged me in the comic and cartoon. Her death could have set up some great stories.
As for Cobra, in the comics none of them annoyed me. But in the cartoon I wanted Metal-Head to blow himself up every time he was on screen. |

I just can't believe Hama killed off Sneak-Peek TWICE. Killing him off the first time was fine, I guess, but then after he brought him back to life by ACCIDENT, instead of letting him do something long-term, killed him off again after a couple issues. Poor dude couldn't catch a break.

Especially egregious cause Sneak Peak's death was one of the most poignant scenes in the original run and very memorable. At least it was to us readers!
I agree with Larry's statements about killing characters though. In real life, you don't get to choose who lives or who dies, and real combat is messy and sudden and before you know it, several of your friends are dead. It's good that he included popular characters like Doc, Quick Kick, and Breaker in the "death" issue cause war doesn't play favorites. People we like get killed, too. I felt worst for Quick Kick. He survived that death camp in Borovia only to be blown to pieces not long afterwards. Also felt bad for Doc. Poor bastard. Peers out of the foxhole to see what's going on and gets his head blown right off for the trouble. And yeah, you could argue he shouldn't have even been there, but my counter to that is, if he wasn't an excellent soldier, he'd have never been on the team in the first place. |

The comic had to thin the heard, so some characters/toys had to die, no way Hama could keep writing it all with zillions of characters running around. It is crazy how that SAW Viper becomes the most effective solider on either side of the conflict.
Cartoon(s), you just phase out old characters, so it matters less. I did think the Duke in a coma deal was laughable, even as a kid I knew it was a add in. The snake bit through his heart, so he should have died. |

Crystal Ball, Zandar, and Raptor could be smoked and I would be fine with that.
Of course Raptor did die in the comics. |
