I love Cobra-La. Or I love Golobulus and the Royal Guards. If it weren't for Cobra-La, Cobra Commander and Roadblock never would have become best pals.

His eyes are also visible under his hood and they are clearly human and in the right place. You can see human flesh in the eye holes. It doesn't make any sense.

I like the idea of Golobulus, Pythona, and Nemesis Enforcer being science experiments rather than Cobra-La itself.

I'd be cool if Cobra-La turned out to be a bad dream after someone bumped his head after smoking too much crack.

I really do see and appreciate both sides. Here?s my thoughts? as a 7 year old kid watching the 87 movie for the first time, I thought it was quite an awesome surprise/ twist and was kinda dark and creepy with this ancient society of ?monsters? really pulling the strings behind everything. Again, to A 7 year old kid I just thought it was super awesome. Then I got older and forgot about GI Joe. Then in my teens In the mid 90s I started collecting and reading the old 80s comic books. Right away I noticed the comics were way more realistic And over all better. To this day I still consider the original Hama run the ?official? Joe story. And I am glad he refused to do cobra - la. I also really loved his take on the how and why of Serpentor VS the cartoon take. I know he didn't want to do serpentor, but he made the story more bearable and more realistic with the politics behind it.
So anyways, Cobra Commander being a failed business man turned terrorist and everything else about the comics I love and consider the official story for sure but I can still appreciate the cartoon movie on its own level. And with that being said, they gave us Pythona and Nemesis Enforcer in modern form figures, I really wish they gave us Golobulus and the guards as well. Just cus they?d be sick figures and would look cool on the shelf next to the rest.

Also despite the goofiness of cobra-la from the 87 animated movie, I still find this Joe movie far superior to the 3 recent crap live action movies they put out in more recent years.

Cobra Commander remarks, "it takes a strong stomach to watch me eat" so there was something vaguely off about his face, but at the time that episode was produced, it was not the idea of him being a Cobra La nobleman who had been disfigured, it just can be retconned to fit that idea. But he wasn't just some guy who could go out to blockbuster with no one giving him a second look. Disfigurement self-caused by a villain, that's a standard trope, there's story/stories out there with Lex Luthor losing his red hair because of lab mishap. Furthermore,I actually have no problem with Cobra Commander being a snake man either tbh. The voice performance leans into the possibility from the beginning. What I have a problem with is the blue skin. We see Cobra Commander having regular Caucasian skin in countless episodes, so that's the only thing you have to get into head canon to explain. The one thing I give DIC credit for, before he puts on the old unform Copperhead found (since when is that one of his old uniforms?), he's rather menacing, a Voldemort monsterity long before Potter, and I'm sure a bit of a leftover what the endgame for Sunbow season3 would have been, but after that moment, him putting on the battle armor and on into DIC proper, Cobra Commander and his schemes get lamer and lamer and the idea of him being a snake man abomination is dropped and he feels like play time Cobra Commander. --- Old Snake in Transformers is quite good, seen as a legend in the criminal underworld, fitting in with say how many admire the Joker in DC's different attaptions. |

Lol, that was kind of a good part of the movie, actually. CoCo and The Block. I don't like the story and background of Cobra-La as presented in the 1987 Movie. I think if they were repurposed somehow in the GI Joe universe, they could be a cool part of it. They are very pulpy. If GI Joe is understood as a pulp fictional property, than characters like Nemesis Enforcer or Pythona could find a place - though, not as the progenitors of Cobra or Serpentor, etc.
