It would be nice to finally see G.I. Joe: The Movie in theaters for its 35th anniversary this year. Transformers: The Movie got a release for its 35th last year. Due to Transformers and G.I. Joe basically switching their release order spots due to Joe production delays and Transformers being an initial failure, G.I. Joe went straight to home video. The opening sequence alone would be awesome on the big screen.
I think the biggest shot to see it in theaters is to get Fathom Events to release it in conjunction with Shout! Factory like Transformers. If you are in interested and have social media accounts, I would suggest saying something to them. Fathom Events: https://m.facebook.com/31335717144/ https://mobile.twitter.com/fathomevents Shout! Factory: https://m.facebook.com/57640591309/ https://mobile.twitter.com/ShoutFactory |

While a cool idea to see it in theaters and technically the animation is the best the franchise has had its still paced like an extended episode of the TV show, compare it to TF The Movie and you'll see the difference in story structure.

Anyone else go see this? I just got back from the Sunday showing. I took my nephews, and there were about 15 other people in the theater. I'm usually not bothered by that, but I realized that I would have enjoyed the movie with a room full of fans in there! It was neat seeing it on the big screen, although (this is my issue) I had some anxiety with my nephews there. I kept thinking "man, this is dumb, and maybe kind of boring.." and I'd look over to them.
In the end, they enjoyed it, and I think everyone walked of the theater with a smile. For those who haven't gone to a fathom events show, they usually have a mini-documentary beforehand. I was looking forward to that one. When we came into the theater a few minutes early, there was already a little thing playing on GI Joe dioramas--it looked cool, but by the time we were seated it had finished. Then they had a little vignette of (a new actor voicing) Duke describing Pythona, Golobulus, and Nemesis Enforcer. I'm glad they did something, but man I wish they'd had Buzz Dixon, Larry Hama, or even a super-fan just talking about some of the movie trivia or behind the scenes facts. I'm really grateful they did this and I got to go, so I hope this post doesn't sound too negative. Once we were seated a guy a few seats away had already gotten his first beer and asked my nephews if they'd seen it and what Joes they liked--it was cool, and it was the kind of energy I was hoping for. It also made me realize this movie might be one I enjoy more with a few pints! |

It was fun, there was only about 6 people in the theater lol. But the Hasbro intro was really cool. My son really liked it, even though I told him before, "Ok, this won't make any sense, compared to the comic and the previous cartoons, Storm Shadow is in it for 2 seconds, a BAT is only seen for a second, Cobra Commander's origins are completely different, etc".
He said it was better than the first 2 live-action movies but he really loved the Snake Eyes live-action too, probably because he saw it in the theater. It was worth it just to see that intro on the big screen, and even though Cobra-La doesn't make any sense, hearing Burgess' voice is always a nice treat. |

My wife, daughters, three random gents and myself had a blast! Anytime Baroness, Scarlett, or Lady Jaye came onto screen they shouted their names, hilarious! Basically had a private screening of a Classic. We all loved it!

My girlfriend and I saw it today! There may have been 20 people in the theater total. It was fun and we had some laughs!
The movie started about 15 minutes late. We didn't see anything before the movie until the new vignette where Duke, Roadblock, and Scarlett are introducing Cobra La. I believe that was still Michael Bell and BJ Ward but I am not sure if that was the original Roadblock voice actor. |

Glad to hear about others experiences! My theater had a poster in the lobby. I looked it up beforehand, and after the movie asked about getting the poster (since that was the last showing). They said to come back after they’d taken it down. I saw another movie later, but was with friends so didn’t ask.
I went back today and asked The ticket guy. He politely checked under his desk and said They didn’t have any. I explained my previous conversation and he radioed somebody and asked If they had any free posters. “All out, sorry”. I explained one more time, but I think he thought I was talking about some kind of promotional poster, then I have up. I only mention this in case any other “tankers” want to give it a try. I think it’ll be cool to have a poster of the only showing this thing has ever gotten in theaters! |

I wish the movie had post credits so we could know if anyone on Cobra and Cobra commander had survived instead of waiting for the Dic series.
