I have it on DVD. I enjoyed watching it, mostly due to finally seeing the latest Joe figures on TV.

Operation Dragonfire when originally shown in 1989 had stock background music from the Sunbow version but there is an alternate version in which DIC replaced the music with their own ongoing G.I.Joe series.
Does anyone else remember this as I can't seem to find this version anywhere. |

I thought it was decent. Unfortunately the ensuing DIC series was pretty bad. Of course DIC had to shoehorn in a whole laundry list of new and/or updated characters. I thought it was funny how season 1 Duke looks almost exactly like Sunbow Duke only to emerge in season 2 looking half his age with some weird giraffe camo uniform, but again that was his updated figure they had to portray.
Dragonfire has plenty of sunbow nostalgia. Outside of Scoop, gnawgahyde and alley viper most of the characters are all sunbow carry overs (stalker, spirit, lady jaye, slaughter etc) You have Chris voicing CC, the baroness and destro, Zarana for cobra. Scoop in a crimson guard uniform. Copperhead resurfaces and you even see cobra troopers and vipers (albeit python patrol) It was a nice little series. Unfortunately you also see the beginning of the end of the cartoon we loved with the crappy animation (particularly the new vehicles and weapons)I really wish we could?ve got season 3 with the coil. Long of the short, Dragonfire was solid, not spectacular. Nice little follow up and bridge from the movie. |

I watched it during the early COVID lockdown and enjoyed it. The animation was certainly not up to par with the Sunbow era but as a 90s kid who did watch the DIC cartoon it didn't bother me. I always thought it was a decent bridge between Sunbow/GI Joe the Movie and the DIC series.

I want to know what happened to Cobra la? Were they destroyed by everything falling on them? My friend told me Golobulus left to outer space, leaving his people to die. In opinion, they were already dying since there were no children.

EDIT: I'm a stickler for grammar, and I've capitalized the word "earthquake" when it isn't actually a proper noun. Unless it's someone's name. Like this guy. Who was awesome.

The only real conclusion to Cobra-La from that era came from the Impel trading cards - which indicated that everyone got buried during an Earthquake. Including Crystal Ball. Who was also a part of Cobra-La apparently.

The citizens of Cobra La saw this and said "right, we're scientists, not wrestlers" and fucked off into space. Then Dino Bravo showed up and nobody gave a shit.

Except then Budo thought that he wasn't a real samurai and tried to get into a real fight with him.
(Look up "Tenta Kitao shoot" on youtube. One of the funnier stories to come out of wrestling, especially given how nice a guy Tenta was.) Quote:
