OK like it or hate it I think we all can agree the DIC series doesn't live up to the standard that was set in the 1st series.
A lot of people will rightfully complain about the quality of animation...which is fair. Its decidedly less stellar. Also a lot of complaints about the voice actors not carrying over from one series to another. That's fair. It is a shame that only three actors carried over. Then there's complaints about the story quality. Which is a bit unfair. I mean 1st series had its fair share of out right ridiculous stories. Is Metal Head's Grandmother really any worse than Da Viper? Are the Android bugs really any worse than Destro's Ratmadillos from Silently I Creep? Granted I will say the comedy in the first series is less...pie in the face than DIC...but its kinda hard to judge one series so harshly that had an entire episode centered around a gorilla having a crush on Cobra Commander vs a series that had a girl giving Lifeline a solid gold chopper. BUT that being said I think we all will agree DIC is probably the lesser show. So instead of bagging further on it I thought I would find 10 things about DIC that actually isn't half bad. #10: The Sword The Sword probably is one of if not the best Snake Eyes stories in the cartoon. Its certainly the closest he gets to having a cool ninja story until G.I. Joe Resolute. #09 The Return of Cobra Commander I think we can all agree, while Serpentor was a lot of fun and provided an interesting twist in the season before the Movie...nobody was happy with Cobra Commanders final fate in the Movie. So having him back was great. #08 Use of characters that had kind of gotten passed over Grunt, Rock n Roll, Snake Eyes all get a chance to come back and shine despite being passed over long ago in the Sunbow series. #07 Battle Coptors They use them pretty liberally, and come on...a one man coptor is pretty cool. #06 Sky Patrol Granted they really don't get a lot of the spotlight but it is one of the fans favorite sub-teams so its cool to see them in action. #05 The General Arguably one of the cooler mobile bases this massive vehicle actually gets used quiet a bit. #04 BANG, BANG BANG! Metal-Head OK hold all the hate...for better or worse, Metal-Head actually ends up being one of the more memorable characters providing a level of comedy that is about on par with the Dreadnoks or even Shipwreck. #03 Interrogator A fan favorite...Interrogator really looks damn cool and sounds pretty cool on his filecard...sadly he really hasn't seen much use beyond this series. But its comes off as pretty smooth evil dude in this series and probably should've gotten more screen time than characters like Gnawgahyde or Road Pig. #02 I Found You...Evy In a series that had some pretty questionable episode stories and a good portion of them either flat out comedy, or all out 'Special' teaching moment episodes...Eco Warriors, Headman etc...'I Found You Evy' comes off as a fairly serious episode where we find out Ambush's childhood friend / kinda girlfriend became really bitter after Ambush left and joined the Joe team. And she actually is better at concealment combat than Ambush is. Its one of the few episodes where a Cobra is portrayed as not only more competent than a Joe...but also provides us with a bittersweet ending of Ambush not redeeming her, and knowing she's out there somewhere. #01 Python Patrol Again like Sky Patrol Python Patrol is a fan favorite sub team, so having them is actually pretty cool...if only it was for longer than the 5 episode Dragonfire series. |

# 11 the opening theme song. GOT TO GET TOUGH YO JOE! I agree with a lot of your post but honestly the the song is definitely the most memorable part of the series.

I'm one of the few that has always liked it. It really showcased all the vehicles that were current at the time. Characters like Capt. Grid-Iron and Tracker were used often (which was not the case for the comics). I also agree that I can't read a comic with Metal-Head in it without hearing that crazy voice in my head (though he appears rarely).

Anyway, I liked the idea of "An Officer and a Viperman", even if they execution was lacking. Season 2 of DIC is when it seemed like they really stopped trying. |

The DIC series is too boring to watch. All the humor was lowest common denominator.
I'll give it one point for giving Zarana pink hair.

It does get tedious. They often manage to make the action scenes boring.

Have to admit, when Cobra Commander was handcuffed to Pathfinder in "Stuck on You", C.C. was wearing his battle armor. Technically he could have snapped the cuffs, then "snapped" Pathfinder. The amorous gorilla would not have been much of a problem either, considering all the power his armor was supposed to have and the fact that he was completely protected within it. Not gonna lie; that episode made me groan.

I actually like it. I think some folks sometimes treat the Sunbow series like it was high brow. Granted, some of the DiC episodes were ridiculous like the football game episode but the Alcatraz episodes were good. Plus, there were some cool figs and vehicles from the later ARAH releases.

I am watching "The Sword" now because of this thread. I've literally never watched an episode before. It's so freaking ridiculous
