Hey, a couple Resolute fans. Yeah, so maybe what I want is a modern GI Joe animated movie in a theater. The live action stuff is ok, but Joe and Cobra just seem more at home in animation, and while I think the 1987 movie is cool, anything related to the 1980's series is going to seem campy to new audiences. I mean, really, have you watched it recently? Ultimately, I like the idea of a modern Gi Joe animated film released to a wide audience, and I feel like this could get kids interested again and drive the toy line. It's fine for 40 year olds (I'm 38) to be into collecting and all, but it's still a toy, and I want to see it in a big way when I walk into the toy store, and to do that, you need a young audience. A big PG-rated cartoon release like Resolute or something similar might do it. Besides, big animated action on a movie screen is really fun to watch.

Don't waste your time. There's no way in a million years that this could possibly happen. Even if it did, I wouldn't go see it.

While I guess in theory it would be cool to see Resolute in theatres, its just not gonna happen. To old at this time, release date wise, and Hasbro would never, ever put the necessary amount of money that would be needed into getting it to the big screen.
I happened to like the dvd, I didn't mind the animation, like others have, and I think it would have been better if it was longer too. What I think would be nice would be a new animated, full length Gi Joe movie, with a modern spin, and YEAH, release it in theatres. I think it could be used to drive toy sales, especially figures from the movie itself, and it could further drive "love" for the brand. Marvel and DC are constantly releasing animated DVD's, and they are awesome. Most of the animation, and story lines are great, and a lot of them have pg-13 ratings. So they are specifically geared for adult and teen collectors alike. I think Hasbro/G I Joe could/should do this too, and it would really help the brand. Granted, they are not full theatrical releases, but its a start. |
