Easily Duke for me. I do generally gravitate towards the golden boy characters. Plus I loved Michael Bell's voice acting.
I do love the fact that you had a pair of leader type characters to choose from in the show. It was great as a kid, because both my brother and I had two different leader type characters to choose from as "our" Joe, instead of fighting over the one. I assume this was the case with a lot of other brothers too. |

Their personalities aside, Flint is just all-around cooler looking. Everything about his uniform set him apart. Duke, like General Hawk, had more of a vintage GI appearance (and nothing at all against that) but Flint seemed unique even among colorful Joes. I would say that only Beach-Head was a debatably cooler-looking figure than Flint.

I like both characters in the cartoons. I've mentioned this several times, but I love how Sunbow pulled a Star Wars Holiday Special on the fans by introducing characters that were not yet available as toys or revealed in the comics. This peaked my interest in the characters even more.
However, I have got to go with Flint! He just seemed a little more gritty and soldier-like than the admin-type that they portrayed Duke as. Jason |

Duke and Scarlett filled Team Dad and Mom tropes. They felt a tad removed from the others because of that. Duke also played into Boy Scout tropes. But he did have the look and credibility to be your top leader on the field of battle. Definitely in the same wheel house as Superman/Capt America.
Flint and Lady Jaye felt more like a battle field couple/partnership. You can see they were in a developing relationship. Lady Jaye in many episodes comes off naturally flirtatious in her body language, so I can get how Flint could get a bit jealous at times. These two seem more 'real' to me than Duke and Scarlett and as later figures, they don't feel as dated either. I do like Duke, but Flint definitely. |

This is tough. They're both excellent, well developed characters with great voices and both have a cool, distinct look.
I think I have to give it to Flint, but it's close. |

This is a good observation. In the episodes 'The Spy Who Rooked Me' and the 'Not a Ghost of a Chance' an entire sub-plot was centered around Flint's jealousy.

Flint a thousand times over Duke if we are specifically talking about the Sunbow animation. Hell now that I think about it as I'm currently re-watching the whole Sunbow serries, I think Flint has more screen time than Duke! When I was little I understood Duke was in charge but now as I'm looking back at things, Duke doesn't seem to carry nearly as much authority as they tried to imply. Hate to use another franchise for comparison but when Optimus Prime died in the 86 Transformers movie, it was emotional and got you right in the feels. When Duke got "put in a coma" despite taking a snake through the heart I really didn't care much. Maybe a little....but I digress.

Yeah, Flint for me. By the character design, color scheme, action figure and he gets my favorite, Lady Jaye.
Duke is bland, by comparison. Love Michael Bell's voice though.

I do like Duke. But Flint has always been my favorite G.I. Joe character.
