In the comic book, at least during his early appearances, Gung-Ho had a thick Cajun accent. Wonder why the cartoon series never gave him one. Not even Resolute, which gave Destro his rightful Scottish accent. I guess maybe he would have sounded too much like Pepe Le Pew?

The one that always threw me was Blow Torch. What was that? The sunbow toon is just filled with vocal oddities though. You have Clutch (a Jersey boy) suddenly speaking with a weird Southern accent, you mentioned Destro and Gung Ho. Of course there was Bazooka... wow.
By and large though they got more right (perhaps a little over the top, Barbecue... it is a cartoon though.) Major Blood, the Noks, Breaker, Baroness, Torpedo and many more. I'd say they did pretty could considering what it was.

I forgot about Blowtorch. Barbecue's accent was by far my favorite from the Sunbow cartoons.

The '80's cartoons were off by more than just accents. Read Beachhead's filecard - totally opposite of his animated character.

Blowtorch's Irish accent could've come from his last name. Hanrahan sounds Irish to me. Lady Jaye should have an accent but doesn't. Then there's Law's Spanish accent; his name and general appearance don't sound Spanish to me. Still, most of the voices are pretty good on the old cartoon.

I think all bad guys in 80's cartoons needed some sort of accent to set them apart, while a few Joes needed some sort of accent to account for the ever growing line of figures and to distinguish them.
Cobra Commander didn't seem to have an accent and Serpentor of course was just a clone of various warriors. |

Mercer in the animated movie seems to have a british accent, but in the DIC toon, its a regular american sounding one.

I think there are a few vocal oddities among the Dreadnoks; Buzzer probably shouldn't be speaking like Ripper or Torch. He's English. I don't recall if Monkey Wrench and Thrasher have 'Australian' accents. All three, and Zarana, have some really weird colloquial. 'Bloody Dingo' isn't said by anyone, anywhere, ever. There's quite a bit of very British slang in there. Thrasher doesn't have a Belgian accent(Van Damme). Zarana is apparently Australian while Zartan and Zandar aren't. Which is really odd when you consider that Zartan has quite a refined speaking voice in the cartoon, but is Australian in later animations and Zandar doesn't sound like either of them. |

As for the toons, well they never followed the filecards or anything really, they did what they wanted. Also they only had a few voice actors available to them. They used whatever accent they could to help make them sound diffrent.

I always liked Dial Tone. But I hated his accent in the cartoons.
