I guess the only way to get it is by getting a bootlegged copy. Sucks though that this was never put out even though when SOny had the rights they announced that it was coming.

Did they?
I knew Rhino lost the rights before S2P2 came out, and this was why we never saw it. Never knew anything about Sony saying they were going to release the final set. |

It's a let down when something is started and is not seen through to the end. I never get why a company gets a license and then can't see it through. I blame the licensor and the licensee. It cheapens the whole deal for the consumers.

S2V2 Story:
When Rhino had the DVD rights to Joe (as well as many other Sunbow favorites) they really got slow on the draw with releases towards th end of their license, managed to get out the final part of Transformers (which had the best overall sales) & didn't bother releasing the S2P2 of Joe, & the final part of Jem. Truth is sales where slow on the 2 latter properties & the price on Joe in particular per box was high ($40 a set) so it did not sell well in the time frame it was released. Then Sony acquired the rights... Realistically Sony only had the rights to Joe, TF & Jem for a very short time. They only managed to get out the TF Movie & OST, & a store exclusive of the 1st 3 eps on DVD. The division that owned the Sunbow titles branch of Sony closed down (a section dedicated to Children's entertainment) & the rights to the Sunbow shows where in flux again. Last year Hasbro acquired back the rights to their 80's cartoon properties so they could be the sole holder from this point on & try to resell it for DVD release to another licensing company, & have so far themselves done minimal bare bones releases of Joe with the DVD packs, & TF with the Optimus 25th pack. They are still searching for a company to license those classics & give the Hasbro 80's series the justice they deserve with a new DVD release. But, you have to keep in mind there has been no announcements on this for a reason. Any DVD licensing company would be taking a risk buying any of these series to make a profit with the money it would take to do it right. "But wait a minute, every one loves TF's & Joe, those dvd's would sell like hot cakes, especially with the Movie Hype...." so you say... Yes the Movie hype for TF '09 & Joe '09 will move sets & that is a good marketing strategy but it may not be enough. In order for Joe & TF to be profitable for any DVD company, the people who already own the Rhino sets would have to REBUY it. That's right. No DVD company will release S2P2 by itself. They have to rerelease the WHOLE series because 2 many newbs won't have the old Rhino DVD releases. They need you to REBUY it all. And the way they can do that is either make irresistable boxsets with new features, digitally remastered, & with exclusives or more. A straight rerelase won't cut it, & you can BET they won't release just S2P2, because they need to make money... And the final chapter of a series WON'T. The 1st DVD set of ANY series always sells the best, it's a fact, more people by season 1 of anything when it comes to DVDs than any other volume, & many people do not buy more than just the 1st seasons. Because casual buyers buy stuff like Joe for a nostalgia trip the 1st time, cure that, & don't buy any more of it. Every DVD company has to hope that the sales won't decline enough with each release of a series that the series becomes unprofitable, because they will no longer release it (aka Rhino). They might even break up the Joe seasons differently so in order to get all the eps, you have to buy it all over again. It's all about economics, & right now, between Rhino's 85% released presentation years ago, sluggish sales in the 1st round for Joe, & the whole economy, a DVD company is going to have to be very ballsy to license Joe & do it right to guarantee strong sales on a series that has already tried & failed once in the DVD market. Some Joe DVD 101. Last edited by Steel Brigade; 11-02-2008 at 10:30 PM.. |

those are what PAYS for Volumes 3 and 4. Companies gage future sales on previous sales... Why keep throwing money down a well when you wont get a return? |
