How can you look at the new cartoon footage and even not like that? That s GI Joe From the way Duke looks and Snake Eyes looks......to the Cobra Troopers getting owned in the woods....
At least seeing the Cobra Troopers you knew that was GI Joe Take away the movie logo on those Posters except for Snake and The Baroness and you wouldnt know what that movie was called......... This Cartoon will be hands down BETTER than the movie........

Yeah, even my wife doesn't want to see it. I have been showing her all the old episodes and Lady Jaye & Flint has become her favorite characters.
When she found out both of those were not going to be in the show, even she has refused to see it! It seems the people being cast in the show are fresh talent actors for the most part and Hasbro is trying to create a show were they will recreate the myth more or less. They want to cash in on the kids more than anything because that is where the summer cash is going to come from. It would be great for all the old schoolers to get basicly what the Devils Due guys did and combine the best of the comics and cartoons and put it in a new movie but Hasbro and its movie producers think otherwise. From what it looks like, we will get a G.I.Joe that wears uniforms analygous to the X-Men uniforms of black leather from the X-Men movies. I am positive it will be alot like the shoot-up Transformers formula like last summer. You will have 2 hours to make a story and that is not alot of time in screentime terms to flesh out alot of different characters. Just a few minutes to call up a quick roster and go into battle with some badies! Everything is going in trilogies so look to the second and third installment for a better show. It will take time to get their groove on. The joe collectors need to get a rich philanthropist G.I.Joe collector enthusiast the likes of Bill Gates. With such a wealthy guys funds, we could produce a new G.I.Joe cartoon (we would have to change the names to keep Hasbro from sueing us!) and hire all the old voice talent and we could make a new cartoon just like the old days with all the cool stories we always wanted! I am grasping at straws here but hey its and idea! |

Yep.
I am. We've seen some character stills from the movie, but no footage yet. When we see these characters in action, it may really rock. We saw Resolute in action, and I'm really psyched for it. Bad casting aside (Marlon Wayans may be good in the movie, and he may win lots of people over. Is he Ripcord? No. Clearly no. A thousand times no.) the movie hasn't shown us 1 second of footage. Give it time. But if I was told I could only watch 1, at this point I'd pick Resolute. |

The choice of director for the film is why I am most worried.
I would rather of had a tried and true director like Renny Harlin direct this film because he comes from the Die Hard action film genre. Mummy was a comedy/action film and I didn't like Brendan Fraser that much. He is a director favorate, and that is why he gets a cameo in it. This is not saying Frasier is bad. I liked him with Liz Hurley in Bedazzled. I just think G.I.Joe needs a 80's/early 90's action director. Jim Cameron would have been my first choice to direct actually. Hasbro wants to be young hip and cool. Lets see where it gets them. |

Stephen Sommers is one of the worst directors that they could have chosen. "Wait and see" doesn't really hold water when the major players have such a poor track record.
The cast is almost a parody in and of itself. I'm sure Ray Park will have a couple of cool moves, and that'll be it. The cartoon looks 100 times better. GI Joe needed a competent director who was incredibly fond of the source material. Like Peter Jackson for Lord of the Rings or Sam Raimi for Spider-Man. Obviously we're getting neither. For the X-Men they took outlandish and colorful costumes and changed them to something more realistic and suited for live-action. For GI Joe they took realistic military uniforms and changed them to superhero body armor. Idiotic. Last edited by Khev; 08-09-2008 at 01:19 PM.. |

YEP!!!
Dude you know what I meant.........GI JOE is way more than a look. Take the Cartoon Clip...........you knew by looking at those Troopers and looking at Duke not to mention Snake Eyes.....you know thats GI JOE...... Look at the Movie Posters Besides Snake and take away the logo from the poster and that could be any cheesy summer flick. Sommers sucks at Directing........and from the looks of it casting.....but you do pay people to cast so maybe just maybe thats not his choice.... Some of you might not have a problem with the change in Ripcord but I do........also the leaked (True/untrue) script.....which I read enough Leaked info from movies to trust my sources......says its going to suck...... This movie was handed to people who dont know the source Material. Why do you need to stick to the source Material.....because if you dont just call it something else...... Dont call it GI JOE because you nailed one part of the movie (Snake Eyes...and ill give them that much). I hope Im wrong about the movie I pray Im wrong........but from what I read and seen it just doesnt look good.......I hope Im so wrong though because i want it to be GREAT!! And watching MR Sommers films and enjoying them for what they are (Summer movies) I know they gave the Movie to the wrong person...... Zack Synder is sticking to the source material for Watchman....in fact the reason he gave in and ended up Directing it was The Producers wanted to "Change" things about it....he took it because he didnt want someone that never read the Graphic Novel to make what they see it to be......he wants to pay homage and make the movie the only way it should be.........................RIGHT!!!!! GI JOE deserves better...........and I know someone is floating around Hollywood that is more a fan than the people involved with this movie.......... Hasbro wants to be young hip and cool. Lets see where it gets them. Renny Harlin directed Die Hard 2, the worst of the 3 (I don't even count that vomit that came out last year in the series). Renny had some cred with Cliffhanger and Long Kiss Goodnight which had there good parts and were his best efforts. Cuttthroat Island was his personal Vietnam and is one of the bigger flops in history mainly due to him mis-managing the production budget. The scale of that movie was nowhere near as big as g.i. joe. Since then he's sunken to directing straight to video schlock. Stephen Sommers has an addiction to CG effects. Van Helsing almost warranted an intervention. Plus he doesn't have a good filmic eye and wouldn't know good acting if it clamped on to his leg and refused to let go! The only good thing about him is that he can handle a huge budget for a film, which is a commonly overlooked trait. I agree with you about early 90's directors but I think you tabbed the wrong one. I would go with this short list: #1 John McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard, Hunt for Red October). This is the Holy Trinity of action movies in my opinion. All 3 very different but equally excellent! #2 Tony Scott (Top Gun, Crimson Tide, The Last Boyscout). One of the best action directors of that era. Has gotten out of hand lately with experimenting with visual styles(Man on fire, Domino, Deja Vu) but when he was in his prime he was hard to beat. Say what you will about Top Gun, the movie is beautifully directed! Also has a great relationship with the military. #3 Simon West (Con-Air, Tomb Raider, the General's Daughter). I'm not a huge fan of any of those films but the guy is a very solid action director and can handle large budget, large scale films. Plus he has an affinity for the military. There you have it, 3 directors that would have been a much better starting point for this film. On opening weekend for the G.I.Joe movie, I'll be at home watching: Predator, Top Gun, Aliens, Delta Force, Commando, Navy Seals, and Red Dawn. |

The only thing that disapoints me about the cartoon is that it's gonna be so short. Five minute episodes? Yeah totally lame.
I'm dealing with the G.I. Joe movie the same way I did with the Transformers movie. It's not going to be what was, get over it. This is new, this is just the movie. |
