Well, regardless of of what everyone involved in it's creation says, i say "hell yeah!" Why not. The Joes just kicked Cobra's ass and blew up a crap load of vehicles all televised for the world to see. they were even smiling while they did it. So it's a perfect reason for Serpentor to decide it's his time to take over... maybe the Cobra la folks were watching it all on TV and that's why they made their move too. Cobra Commander decided to go all Captain Kirk and strapped on a bomb and a jetpack and dove right into the battle... then looked like an ass getting punched by Duke and flying away ON TOP of a trouble bubble. Globulus just had enough and it was time to make some changes!

I just want to know what was the point of capturing Liberty Island? Serpentor is a moron with a hard on for US monuments.

the plan doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Land a whole bunch of troops on Liberty Island, and then blow it up with all of them still on the island?

The opening sequence was just that, an opening sequence. Serpentor was just displeased with Cobra Commander. Probably because whenever CC was involved with anything it always ended with a "Cobra! Retreat!".
Now... not hijacking or trying to change topics but, I love the renegades rendition of Commander and kind of wish CC was portrayed that way in the 80's toon. Then again, I was never a big Serpentor fan and was happy when he caught an arrow in the comic books. I know I know, different writers, no continuity, etc between the comics and cartoon.. just my .25 worth of ramblings.

The intro's the beat part of the movie. Usually never watch anything past that. Haha! Jk

I've always regarded the sequence as relating to Serpentor's raging rant at the beginning of the movie. Regardless of what the folks who drew up the sequence and the script-writer/story architect (who were never on the same page to begin with) say about it, it makes sense that the opening sequence ties in with the opening scene. And regardless of what those two parties say, I would think the guys editing the movie together might have a different opinion, and may have known what the braintrust that was behind designing the storyline had in mind. Maybe they told the guys who designed the sequence that they wanted a big action-packed opening because the lead-in of the movie needed to show Cobra messing things up and losing again because of CC. |

I always loved the intro. Occassionally I will watch it on youtube. I also think that it was a stand alone sequence apart from the movie. I think the intro is a kind of summary for GI Joe as a whole.
I always loved that CG parachuting down and punching the camera for some reason lol. One thing that bothered me about this was Cobra Commander flying the bomb in. Wouldn't CC be the absolute LAST troop to perform this task? When you are in charge, shouldn't you send in a minion to do that sort of task lol? I guess it made it more dramatic though. |
