I used to collect the 12 inch Military Figures from Dragon Models, I still have a bunch of them.
Now I bought these guys 7-8 yrs ago but I never paid nowhere near $100 for any of them. The only Dragon figures that cost $100 had TONS of accessories, I'm talking double wide boxes with lots of gear, or figure 2 packs. I can't see how Sideshow could be charging anything more than $60 for any of the Joes they've produced so far. I think Sideshow figures look great, just not $100 dollars great. |

The licensing fee for Hasbro must cost quite a bit. I do think they are very overpriced. They should not cost more than $75.00 each. I have been watching them up it buck by buck with the past few figures and now I think they are around the $130.00 level.
They are good figures, but given the standards of the current 12" figure industry, they could be better for what they are charging. The bodies are the first thing that come to mind that bother me. They are way too thin and weak. I bought two of them and sold them on eBay. I was going to collect this line, but decided that the $1,000 plus that I would be putting toward this line could buy me a lot of 3 3/4 POC and MOTU Classics plus more. The only figures I would pay $129.99 each for would be a second release of the Hot Toys Aliens series with Hudson, Hicks, Apone, Drake and Vasquez. THAT is an impressive line. |

Thats the thing though, I consider them works of art...even though they are reproduced off an original. I think they are entitled to sell them at whatever point of profit they wish to turn. Thats the pesky problem with capitolism...the idea is to make money off the guy who wants to spend it...vaule is in the eye of the beholder and that guy selling it gets buku bucks if he strikes the right chord with the buyer. Now if we could only get Hasbro to charge $15-$20 a figure for elite versions in 3 3/4 scale on the similar look comprehenisve to the vision shared over at Sideshowtoys wow.

What I have noticed with them, is that the last few figures have not sold out like they did in the past. I think initially Snake Eyes was a hit and the Cobra Trooper was great as well. Cobra Commander was OK, but did not sell as well. Just by looking at the Sideshow site, I can see that Flint and Beachhead have not sold out yet. Previous figures sold out much quicker with, what I imagine, similar production runs. I imagine newer figures like Zartan and Stalker will do the same unfortunately. The exclusive versions will sell out and the regular versions will hang around. To me, this means stores and collectors are not interested in buying the new merchandise as they cannot move the old merchandise. That is a death blow to the line. They are not making a lot of these figures. A 2,000 run for one figure is not very much. Take a look at Duke that sold out and he had a 2,000 quantity run. Then look at Flint, who has a 1,500 quantity run. The preorder for Flint has been around since February. He has not sold out yet. Sideshow can charge whatever they want for their figures, they are just not getting my money. Lower their prices and I might get interested in the line again. I like the Sideshow GI JOE figures, but not at the price they want. To me, they are not $130.00 figures. |

Given they are they are the only ones giving us super detailed and badass Joes with full authority on the licenes how can anyone complain? No one is in competition with them. Hot Toys does make a good line as well and I have thier predator ducth and billy figures but really when you own both and they stand side by side you can not tell the differenc eunless your lookin gat them with a magnifying glass... lol
I agree with you on some of the the heads like Duke, Beachehad and Flint though those are horendous, why i am buying only the masked figures and mostly Cobras, masked beachhead is the first joe I bought. Skipped over Storm Shadow as I did not like his cobra sigil and his dinky looking uniform They are not ripping anyone off though since it is 100% sanctioned by Hasbro for the brand and that adds cost, go ahead and buy those generic soldiers from the other lines and kit bash em, by the time you buy all the parts and shipping, you'll be right back to where you started with the side show price You're right that no one is in competition with them, but that's because Hasbro isn't allowing anyone else to make deluxe figures like this. I've looked at the Predator figures, and while they're not bad, I'm more impressed with Hot Toys' purely military figures. And that's what I'm comparing these Joes to... Here's the thrust of my complaint: Sideshow is trying to do two things: 1. update these characters in a realistic way, and 2. offer old fans (who can afford them) classic looking figures. That's a very fine line to walk because part of what keeps these characters "iconic" are the very things that keep them from being plausible and realisitic. I simply want Joes who are a little more realistic and plausible. That doesn't mean that I don't want JOEs. I don't just want random, generic, realistic 12" military figures. I want Duke, Flint, Beach-Head, and the rest... I just want them to be taken serisously as commandos and Special Forces Operators.

I own every SideShow GI JOE 1/6th release and have a pre-order for the exclusive of everyone that is in the pipeline. They are that good. They are the best 12" incarnations of RAH to be released...EVER. Matter of fact, I would argue that they are the best figures ever released representing the RAH mythos and storyline.
The competitors to sideshow have less restriction as to what they can and cannot make. We want something true to RAH, and that is what they are giving us. If you want real military, go buy something else. The SideShow Joes look amazing in my display case. My ONLY complaint is that they do not release them more frequently. They currently release 4-6 a year. I visit sideshowcollectibles.com fairly often. Then have forums for the sideshow lines and I check the posts in the Military/GI Joe section, but not nearly as often as I come to the tank. They are a slightly different breed of collector, as many are a Sideshow collector or a statue collector...etc. Me, I just like the RAH joes. Sideshow has repeatedly said that these figures are not just deluxe 12" figures of the classic characters. They have stated over and over again that these figures are inspired by the original characters, but are modern, realisic interpretations. And just like any interpretation, there's usually something lost in translation. Sideshow Duke was a nicely updated figure, but they made some changes. Flint's shotgun is another example; he's getting a tactical shotgun instead of his classic sawed-off shotgun (only the Exclusive comes with the sawed-off). That's a pretty significant change. The facial sculpts are a divergence from the originals in and of themselves... the original card art from '85 never showed a grimace or squinting. Sideshow is making creative choices and changes... I just think they're making the wrong choices in some cases.

Clearly you're new to what Sideshow has to offer... They sell EVERYTHING at high prices, their GI Joe line is the LEAST of my concern...

These dolls are way too expensive. Not hating on anyone who likes them they are just not my cup of tea.
