As much as I love the Sideshow 12" Snake Eyes figure, it has to be said that his body is a tad on the... well, slim side. So after seeing some posts on other forums from people who'd swapped the body out, I took the plunge and ordered a more muscular replacement body.
Before the swap, with the original Prometheus type body, Snake Eyes looked like this: All very well and good but no real definition to the body itself, especially the arms. However... After replacing the Prometheus with a Hot Toys Albert Wesker body (thank you eBay), he looks like this: MUCH better, methinks. he generally fills the clothing out so much better now, and the upper body (especially the arms) look much better IMO. Some modding was required to make the new body fit; I didn't want to alter any of the Snake Eyes parts so it was Wesker that got chopped. Wesker's lower rms are longer than SE's, and the Sideshow SE's gloves don't have much of an indent inside them, so I cut away some of Wesker's lower arms until they were the right length and opened up the peg holes so the SE gloves would fit. I also removed the extensions to his lower legs (they make the Wesker figure look taller, but they make Snake Eyes look WAY too lanky) & removed a pin & socket inside them, allowing the pegs in SE's boots to fit in perfectly. The only parts from the original Snake Eyes body that are used are the head and neck. I have some new boots (proper lace up ones made of soft material) and a set of elbow pads on the way; I'll post updated pics when I've added them. |

That looks so much better. The proportions of Sideshow's Prometheus body just doesn't work for certain characters and the articulation model leaves something to be desired, great call substituting it with a contemporary Hot Toys one.

Wow, that looks great. How does he compare to the other figures as far as size goes? Snakeeyes is probably the only figure that I really have a problem with the prometheus body. I was wondering if he'd end up bulkier than the other figures (I always pictured him more on the athletic side; not super muscular).

Personally I like Snake Eyes as a slimmer figure. More sleek and streamlined for speed and agility as opposed to say a Duke or Flint who I believe should be bulkier and rugged. The mod looks cool, but I would be afraid that he'd look too big when next to the rest of the Joe team. Further, I like the Joes for NOT being superheroed out. More like real guys with regular builds doing extraordinary things.

Very nice.
Edit to add: As an aside, are all Sideshow heads interchangable?

I have no idea; however the Snake Eyes neck popped onto the Wesker neck balljoint perfectly.

Cool, I'm going to be picking up a Cobra Trooper soon, and maybe someone else, maybe the sniper. I've been thinking of picking up another head, and a balaclava so I can demask the trooper. I was thinking a celebrity head might be amusing.
