Hello all,
Like the title of my post says, I'm hoping to find some G.I. Joe's that are very similar to the ones that I grew up with. I'm turning 58 in a few days, so I was there for the beginning. I probably got all mine anywhere between 1966 and 1969. We're talking, as you all know, the big 12 inch ones, (11 and a 1/2, whatever) with the painted hair, that were designed to be representative of the soldiers of the time. I'm hoping to find some again, partly for myself, but mostly for my two boys ages nine and seven. Yes, I'm too old to have kids that age, but I do, heh. I remember having probably 6 or more soldiers, as well as the capsule, the blue fighter jet, the scuba sled and the jeep, as well as lots and lots of alternate uniforms and accessories. I do understand that because the ones I am looking for are over or right about 50 years old, and the first ones that were made/released, that they will be commanding probably the highest prices in general. What I am hoping to find, is possibly some suggestions on where I could locate some besides the usual suspects for sources, eBay and the like. Another option that I was really hoping I would be able to find, due to my suspicions of the demand and high prices the originals would command, was that they were making reissues of some of the original ones, full-size, with the painted hair. In some quick research I have seen that they are periodically making re-releases of some of the older models, but the ones I've seen have had different features, like life like hair, and the soldiers were set up for more specific scenarios and such, not just your basic every day GI Joe like what I grew up with. I could see where making re-releases might really take the bottom out of the collector market, but they could easily make the new ones easily identifiable, sort of like what Hot Wheels does with its "vintage" releases of some of the first few years cars. So I guess my other question is, have there been some releases that I might have missed? Or has anybody heard anything about something upcoming that might fit the bill? Once again, I'm hoping to find some like the originals but in a way that doesn't break the bank. Thank you for any suggestions or info. Last edited by Bruce; 10-09-2017 at 02:26 AM.. |

Local classifieds like Craigslist etc is where I found a ton. Also look to the left, the eBay ads, there are some 12 inch figs up.
