I know this is the SIDESHOW 12" toy section, but I didn't know where else to put this.
Just looking for tips on collecting the old stuff. A part of me would like to have a couple in my collection... I know I could get the Club repros rather easily, but vintage is always nice to have. Any key/marquee figures that really stand out? Any good online guides like yojoe.com, but for the old stuff? Really just looking for any info, here... I'm hoping to maybe see some at the Joe con this year but I don't remember there being too much in past years (but then again, I wasn't really looking, either).

Your best bet is going to cons. Usually dealers have great deals all the time. I got a gallon ziplock full of vintage clothing and weapons etc all for $10, for my dad at last years con.

Obviously, as you're aware from some of my other threads, I've just gotten into the sideshow stuff. I don't know if I'm gonna even broach the old school 12" stuff. I always thought it was neat --- the amount of detail and the volume and diversity of the accessories. I remember seeing some of the special release 12" figures at Walmart a few years back, and I was tempted to pick up one or two then. I just don't know that I'll ever get into the old school stuff. I like the SS stuff because they are more modern.

Thanks guys, I'll check those out.
Yeah, I haven't seen much Joe at all at cons around here, except for Joecon. Even there, I see a smattering of old 12" stuff, but still, what I'm really looking for is a base knowledge of this stuff, a frame of reference for when I do go out buying. I'll check out those links, definitely. I'm into the Sideshow stuff as well, and of course 3 3/4"... but I think I've reached the point in collecting where I value vintage - and especially the history behind vintage - a bit more than I used to. I would love to have at least an original "first GI Joe ever" figure in my collection.

Google the Trenches Forum for starters, there's a TON of 12" Joe love out there. I am a huge Adventure Team fan.
For starters, don't jump into it hardcore. Poke around flea markets, estate sales, etc. Craigslist is good too. Darryl DePriest did an amazing book on the 12" Joes from these eras which is just a pleasure to read and flip through. Joes can be restrung, and even reflocked if needed. Figure out what you want, and start the hunt! Have fun, most of all! |

My boys and I collect all sorts of version of joes. We particularly like 12" classic joes. We bought the 40th anniversary like crazy and probably have three dozen of them, including almost every remade accessory. We like to check out "the trenches" on-line forum.

I just picked up a 75 Land Adventurer in pretty decent shape. Ive never had one of these before. My older brother back in the day had all this stuff, but he trashed it all...dumb ass. I'm really loving the Adventure Team line. Just what I need, another Joe thing to go nuts over..... I already very very carefully washed his cloths. lol
