Your confusing me. You state that other retailers are doing pre-orders at $165 but have only listed two at $165.99. Why would you expect an eBay dealer to take a loss or just break even on a pre-order? That seller's shipping is free which means he is probably right in line with SSC's actual final price after shipping costs.
Oh, and FYI: While I don't know the profit margins on Sideshow figures, NO dealer would sell them if they weren't making money on them. With other "premium" brands like Apple, Bose, and Tempur-Pedic, the markup is often very high. How high? As a mattress salesman, I was once offered employee appreciation pricing by Tempur-Pedic. While the general public has only 2 choices, either take Tempur-Pedic's price, or leave it, as someone that works in the industry, I had the opportunity to buy one for LESS THAN HALF of the retail price! How much less, I won't say, as that's proprietary info. And computer experts have long said that Apple's products cost at least 20% more than they should. They even have a name for it: The Apple Tax. ;-)

Order directly from Sideshow. Get the exclusive version, it will hold its value better, and sideshow can break it up in 2 or 3 installment payments. Plus if you ever were to run into an issue they will help you very quickly since they have record of the transaction. And the bonus is, the points you gain. Roughly 7 percent of each purchase goes into your points account and you can you this towards future purchases. I will probably get this Storm Shadow for free using my points once it's available for a points purchase.

Also you can buy sideshow figs for less than MSRP. Usually it's after the figure is released. I bought several cobra troopers for $50 plus shipping online. I got those from gohastings.com.

Okay, finally some news in from Urban Samurai, and it's good news!
I've also edited the first post to include all the pricing from all the sites I've been able to verify, listed in order from highest total cost to lowest.

Why? It's quite simple: "Buy It Now OR BEST OFFER"! When an eBay Seller gives that option, I fully test the limits of how low they're willing to go to be competitive. I work in commissioned sales, in a sector of retail where haggling is not just possible, but expected. As such, I know that when a customer is shopping for the best price & mentions a competitor's lower advertised price on the same merchandise, I have 3 options:

Based on my experience in these matters, as someone that's been working in retail and customer service since 1989, and after working for the last 7 years as a commissioned salesperson in a very competitive sector of retail, it seems likely to me that you've never worked a day in your life in a retail environment where haggling is expected. If I am wrong about that, you have my apologies. I've got a better idea, though: Why don't YOU provide YOUR eBay ID so people reading this thread can decide for themselves whether or not you're giving them a fair price when you start your sales up again.

After that, the next product from them that I ordered was the Hot Toys Retaliation Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow figures. I pre-ordered from a 3rd party dealer that had the lowest price I could find at the time (AP Collectibles, for those that are interested.) They took a little longer to get to me than they would have if I'd ordered directly from Sideshow, but they've now been delivered.

It is your OPINION that I am wrong. That doesn't make it FACT. Again, I was PLAYING DEVIL'S ADVOCATE so I could find out who's going to offer the best deal to members of this forum!

He has best offer to test the market. He turned down your offer. You did not say that he was rude or nasty to you. He simply declined. So... what do you do? You come over here and start an eBay 'rant'. 4 - Too many collectors get caught up in what they feel they are owed. If you disagree with the price you do not buy it and you move on or you make an offer and if the seller does not want to sell it, you can move on too. If you agree with the price then you purchase it. You threw up a rant thread. 5 - I will start up another major sales thread... sometime around Christmas or in 2014 when I have some real time. People will either buy it or I will have to lower prices. I started a minor one a few months ago. Actually I listed 20 CGC Spider-man slabs over on the CGC boards. Some sold. Those that did not, I marked up and put on eBay. One sold. Then I rotated them back on the eBay boards and rinse and repeat. Over time, they sell at the prices I want for them. For some of us, $130-135 a figure was ALREADY a bitter pill to swallow and an unwelcome price point. But with their newest characters for the "Year of Cobra", Sideshow has jacked their prices up into the same stratosphere as Hot Toys, a most unwelcome change, regardless of how good the figures are!
I think this particular large price increase is risky. Sideshow, or any other business, can push the price so far before collectors walk away in droves. For me im taking a pass. This is not something i cant live without, and for the price i can buy a whole case of wave 3.5 and have a bunch left over. I think everyone makes a similiar decision for what they are comfortable with. Be interesting to see how sales work out. |
