HISS Tank Reviews GI Joe Cobra #12 - GI Joe News
Wow...I actually had this issued spoiled last night and couldn't believe it. When I read the issue it was still quite awesome. Chuckles did it...what no Joe has done...killed CC. Evidently this leads into the Cobra Civil War that was mentioned at some 'Con. My spoiler said there would be several people vying for the now vacated spot of Cobra Commander. I am a bit worried about the solicit for next issue. I hope this isn't the end of Chuckles. Again, solid job by the Cobra staff. I have heard some of the names being tossed around as trying to take over Cobra. I have my suspensions as to who it will be. Supposedly the list of who is vying for spot of CC was given or hinted to some of the admins to various Joe boards. Hopefully, we will get the list soon. |

The main cover of this issue promises "and one shall surely die!", and it follows up on that promise. One of the people on the cover does die in this issue. The cover features Serpentor, Chuckles, Baroness, Xamot Paoli, Tomax Paoli, Big Boa and Cobra Commander. The last couple issues have all pointed the way to who Chuckles will kill. But it ends up being a complete shock.
And Chuckles words before he pulls the trigger? Excellant. Most of the issue revolves around Xamot Paoli, who has been finding himself on the outs with Cobra. His fingerprints and keycard have been removed from access to the High Command areas. Tomax is worried that this will reflect poorly on both of them and lead to their eventual death or at least lost of prestige. Xamot is not worried at all. And throughout the issue he shows why. Most of the issue is about Xamot starting his exit strategy from Cobra. This involves using the Crimson Guard, who are loyal to the Paoli's first and Cobra second. It also involves stealing Chuckles ID card. But as we see at the end of this issue, the Commander is always one step ahead of everyone else. And so is Chuckles. Costa and Gage do a great job of showing Xamot setting up his fait accompli of Cobra. It all makes sense. It all flows nicely. There are no holes in the plan except one. And it's a brief comment from the Commander to a guard that provides the one flaw in Xamot's otherwise perfect plan. And it serves to highlight the ego of Xamot and as the Commander says, he's just not as smart without Tomax. It's a credit to the work that Costa and Gage did in the previous issues that a moment that shouldn't be a shocker ends up being a shocker. But for a couple of reasons. Who and who does it. Fuso's art is back to his usual standards after a couple of weaker issues. The double page spread of the kill shot is very well done. The last page is very nice and the picture in the background is a good connection to the Cobra-La issues of this title. G.I. Joe: Cobra #12 receives 4.5 out of 5 Excellant issue with a twist that is really surprising. Originally posted at Kitty's Pryde

Yes, but they really hadn't given him any characterization. I think it is going to lead to some interesting storylines. And as I said I think the new CC is running around the IDW Joe verse and it is not any of the usual suspects.

I haven't read it yet but that two page spread of Cobra Commander...oh my god!
I don't think this was the actual Commander but a stand in. Guess we'll see in due time. Also, I lost track but is this the final issue or is there one more issue. |

I think he is gone. Supposedly this leads to a new Cobra Commander as it is a position and leads to the Cobra Civil War. I guess IDW leaked this to some of the site admins of various Joe Boards.
Think about it...this guy really did not have much characterization at all. He was just Cobra Commander. Heck Mad Monk has more characterization than this guy. Maybe if they bring in a second CC then we will start to see some familiar elements. Also, whose to say this guy was even the founder of Cobra. He could have been the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th CC. Maybe some of the others are still running around. Lots of possibilities and no real need to ever bring this guy back. |
