I find the idea interesting as well. As a mini series of two extra long issues and not taking place in the normal continually why not give it a shot. I understand it won't be for everyone, but we have several books that are very much alike, and as long as this is a stand alone type of thing there will be no complains from me.

The most interesting thing to me is that this is the 1st GI Joe series that Schmidt is writing for IDW. Up until this point he has been an editor on the various GI Joe series since 2009.

Yay, another IDW Joe title for me to not try - I mean, I'm the open-minded sort (confirmed ROC fan) who'll usually give anything a go and buy at least the first issue, but IDW have made such a mess of their other Joe Series (in my opnion) that I won't even extend them that courtesy for this new one.
It's the IDW Transformers debacle all over again (which I suspected would happen) - Milk the franchise into oblivion and bog it down in so much continuity & contrivance as to be virtually unreadable. Quote:
If they'd made a good job of the existing direction, then I might agree and be all for going in an interesting new one. As they haven't (again, my opinion), I can't say I'm excited for yet another 'bold new spin'...

What have they messed up with the Joeverse?
There are no continuity issues (Hearts and Minds not counting, because that can stand alone if want it to, and there are no direct contradictions). They're putting more backstory, more depth and more attention to the Cobra organization then anyone else ever has.
