Think of a trade paperback collection cover like an album cover. Most times it has nothing to do with the music instead, it's just imagery.
The Special Missions TPB coming in October, artwork by Robert Atkins, has nothing to do with the contents, it's a shot of various Joes. I don't really agree with it, I'm in the group that thinks the cover should reflect the contents, but this has been going on in comics for a LONG TIME and not just IDW. Alot of publishers are going for the "pin-up" cover over content cover nowadays. Marvel does it. DC does it. It seems to be trending back towards the content cover, which is a good thing.

J. Scott Campbell is garbage and makes me want to rip the covers off these volumes. They should have gotten the best cover artist in the world Mike Zeck to do new covers.

Vol. 5 contents. Dr Mindbender is introduced and later in the volume he creates Serpentor, causing concern for CC. Several Joes are introduced in this volume, including Bazooka, Airtight, Alpine, Lowlight, and Beachhead. Vol. 5 cover. Image of Bazooka, Airtight, Alpine, Lowlight, and Beachhead looking on at a looming image of Serpentor with... Dr Mindbender grinning maniacally in the corner as CC looks on. Umm... yeah. |

Campell is popular, and can move books. Having one of his covers created name regcognition in today's market. Mike Zeck, while a decent artist, and genuinely responsible for a few iconic covers, is on an off and is only known by old-schoolers and people who know the business. |

J.Scott Campbell's name sells books.
Package a turd in a bag with art drawn by him, and some one will buy it. |

For those that have gotten the Vol 9 TPB, is the cover two posts above correct?
Or is it that cover with Destro & Baroness? |
