At first, I was going to post a poll on which line everyone prefers. But that poll would be enormous. So I decided to compartmentalize.
Hasbro has had a long relationship with Marvel and buys them. DDP had a 10 year run bringing creative new stories and an array of new characters but now ousted by Hasbro being called and "alternate" universe. IDW is coming about with an edgier reboot of G.I. Joe and praised by Hasbro. The question is pretty straightforward. With several issues from each now out, which do you prefer? Feel free to comment why you chose what did. I'll post my response after a few others have.

IDW, but you knew that. lol
I know I'm in the minority. I was out of Joe for the DDP run, but I liked the early part of the Marvel run when I was a kid.

I like DDP the most, especialy the crossover stuff. Great art, Great stories, and they prety much came at a time where Joe was somewhat obscure compared to Transformers. I Realy think the DDP run had a strong part in making Joe relevent again.

Where is the indifferent option?
With out it I don't know how to vote! Marvel is good for comics based on the actual toys, DDP got me back into Joe, and IDW is great if you can enjoy slow builds. Off topic, just read Hearts and Minds and Black Firefly is awesome. |

Okay, let's say that you're introducing a friend to G.I. Joe. Your friend is an avid comic book reader with similar tastes to your own. You want to give your friend the best representation of the toys you love with (in your opinion) the best comic book line that you can. Which would you choose?

I'm most excited about #156 by Larry Hama... IDW made it happen.

IDW all the way. I love the different takes on the Joeverse.
#156 comes out this week. Marvel was great, but towards the end it lost it. DDP never had it to begin with.

Of course I enjoy Marvel, cause it's the Joe I remember as a kid.
But I love what DDP did with the property. They got my vote. Though I would never suggest anyone read it without reading Marvel first. DDP had just enough of the Joe I remember as a kid, with a modern twist that was just perfect. I look forward to Hama's ARAH continuation, but in my mind, his will be the alternate universe. I'm really enjoying IDW. As monthly issues it sucks sometimes, but as TPBs/story arcs, it's very intriguing. |
