Using a female character as a disposable plot device so the male hero can go on his "roaring rampage of revenge" isn't new, or gritty, or edgy. I've seen it done so often in movies, books, television, and especially comics that it's become a sad f***ing cliche. |

It was more like lazy writing.

My biggest thing still is it was an angle to Flint you never saw coming, much less ever expected from him, given the way he always carried himself before. I think for me, that is why I personally enjoyed it so much. On a side note, I have been re-reading the Marvel run as of late and it's funny b/c when Flint was first introduced he came off as a real pompous ass as compared to the later Flint we came to know, not to mention the "hero" Flint from the cartoon. LOL

This is a no brainer. The obvious and only thing that ever needed to happen with gi joe comics since 1994. Hama writing original continuity starting where he left off with the freedom to do it right. Perfect. Seems ridiculous that it took 16 years and numerous unnecessary revamps and restarts before someone in charge realized this. And even now, IDW has 4 other joe titles going. Totally unnecessay. The new Hama series is second only to the original Hama series.

I never really had anything against LJ, but you have to admit her getting killed added a WHOLE new dimension (obviously) to Flint that was pretty cool b/c it was something we never saw in him before.
Again, that is partly why I do not like this whole "F- DDP" thing, b/c stuff like that really DID add to the legacy of the ARAH characters / story. ...........not to mention dumping Hawk in the wheelchair too, all the stuff like that really gave you another dimension you never got in the Marvel run. It was like nothing really bad could ever happen to any of the "heroes" of the stories. :( Quote:
Ok, I'll give you that, but regardless, "I" still for one enjoyed it.

LOL The drastic change in Flint's personality felt overly contrived to me so that's why I didn't really care for it. Last edited by GMW79; 05-02-2010 at 10:08 PM.. |

I still like the DDP stuff, but the reboot back to 155 makes sense for Hama's writing style.
I am a big fan of 130-155. In 1996 I was visiting my dad out west and I was getting back into Joe. I went to a comic store looking for the GIJoe comic not knowing it had ended in 94, so I bought as many issues as I could. I ended up with 132-155 and ended up rereading them for two weeks while I was at my dads.

One of the best and craziest thing about comics is the eternal reset button.
