I'd like to say I've no knowledge of a second #1 issue, but unfortunately, working in a comic store pricing and stocking says otherwise.
I've never read the relaunch issue, only new stuff I've read since the 90's is the first handful of Brand New Day issues. Really though, I'd personally say the first hundred or so issues are great and the rest I'm pretty indifferent about.

I think it just depends on the writers, the title and charecter...some #1's I think the older ones are kinda weak..if you go back and read Hulk or Avengers #1 they dont even come close to some of the better issues.
Personally, and I might get rocks thrown at me for this...I enjoyed reading the older Joe stuff, but sometimes it just kinda seems a bit "dated". I think it really started firing on all cylinders with issues in the early 20's till the end of the Marvel run. The last #1 comic book that I read and was like...holy sh*t that was pretty sick! Was going back a few years with Moon Knight #1...I just thought the story telling was fanfriggintastic. |

Micronauts #1 (from the 70's) was awesome... It was a pretty good origin story.

GI Joe #1 was good, but the GI Joe series really ramped up for me in the teens with the Snake Eyes/Kwinn/Venom story arc. You had some key deaths, a major battle, a super weapon (the toxin), etc. I lost interest in the Marvel run after the Cobra civil war. Other than Serpentor, there weren't any deaths of major characters and that took from the realism for me.
