Not sure if it's just me or if anyone else feels this way but for some reason ever since IDW picked up GI Joe I just haven't been able to get into the story. So far they have done 14 issues and it seems like they are just dragging out a story that usually would take maybe 7 total books into what they have now and they are still aren't done with the story. Just curious how everyone else feels about the current state of the IDW books are if it's just me expecting too much, too soon.

There's been other topics on this, you're not alone.
I happen to like what IDW is doing. The pace was slow at the start, but it's starting to pick up. I love a long build up. I hate the way most comics are done. Good stories and ideas take the build up.

I'm loving it so far. It is best read in chunks (three or four books at a time)...but overall I love it. I like that you get familiar faces, with more or less familiar personalities, in new settings.
My expectations were low so I've been nothing but sated with the books thusfar.

I'm going to stick with it for a few more issues but so far I feel like i'm reading the same book over and over b/c of how slow things are going with Cobra....I mean seriously how long before they make a move of some sort. I usually wait till I get at least 4 issues before I read any or I just don't feel like it was worth spending my money on

A build up to something big with devastating and intelligent enemies is the preferred route for me. It worked for Transformers Animated. Some fans proclaimed blasphemy at the fact that Megatron took the entire 1st season to reformat himself, and only showed up on the frontlines in the season finale, yet what he did was cunning, and BEAST. VERY strategic.
Hell Prime could not take him out unassisted, during the last battle at the series finale, he had to don armor, and Prowl made a last minute save so that Prime would live. Sure Megatron was defeated, but it was a VERY close battle, not one sided at all. Anyways the Decepticons were devastating in Animated and with IDW's G.I. Joe, Cobra seems just as lethal. G.I. Joe Cobra #4 is excellent proof of this. As far as Chuckles thought he got, it turns out he got nowhere. I'm glad Cobra is painted as an intelligent enemy and not predictable at all. There is such thing as taking too much time, but in the long run, I don't think IDW is doing that. Better to let it build up for now than pull out all the guns now and run out of steam. |

I guess I'm just impatient and I want to see something really big happen. I liked the Snake Eyes vs Viper book and was hoping that it would really pick up after that but it looks like now they are going to do a arc with Snake Eyes healing...like I said, i'm just a little impatient I guess.
As far as TF:Animated went I thought it was good but yeah I it was kind of slow moving as well but I guess with it being a cartoon and not a comic I really didn't mind so much. |

The IDW GI JOE CLASSIC trade paperbacks are the best we are getting and are all we need.

I'm thinking IDW is following the lead of the movies and taking a long time to build into something worth waiting for. Once the second movie hits I think the comic will follow suit with more action.

If you mean the main GI Joe line, it has plenty of action but is moving slowly. Clearly, the writers have a point but how many comics - and how much money! - will it take to get there? Still, I get their dilemma: how do you develop new characterizations of classic characters? The problem with the main line is that they are putting in too many of these characters, making it difficult to keep up with both the changes and who they are. It is amazing to look back at the issue three of GI Joe - and while most of the characters looked almost exactly the same, you learned so much about each of them before the issue was over: Flash was a technical genius, Steeler was incredibly strong, Breaker was witty, Snake Eyes was silent, stoic, and deadly, Hawk was the leader, Clutch was the joker, etc. The new issues have only hinted at who these characters are - and actually have built a far better foundation for Destro and the Baroness than for the Joes. In fact, WITHOUT Origins, this comic would be absolutely frustrating for a newbie - at least to have a clue about what is going on with the Joes.
