Like the title asks, which comic book charcters are your favorites and why?
Don't just say "I like Wolverine", explain why you like the character so much. For me, in no particular order: Shadowcat: I've always like her mix of smarts, skills and attitude. She was a teenager but was more mature then alot of adults and had been thru a lot. She was equal parts of her surrogate fathers, Professor X and Wolverine. Black Knight: Dane Whitman. I can't really say why I've always had a fondness for this character. He was always one of my favorites from back in the days when Bob Harras and Steve Epting were doing the Avengers (my favorite run ever). I loved the whole tech-knight angle they did with him. The inner war for him between magic and technology and always trying to find the right mix between the two. It's too bad that the excellant Captain Britain and MI-13 series came to an end. I'm hoping that he makes an appearance in the Marvel Universe line. As a leader he was top notch, but overshadowed by Captain America and Hawkeye and others. Starman: Jack Knight. What a great character James Robinson created. The classic Super Hero that doesn't want to be one. Trying to live up to the Starman legacy but not wanting to be a part of it and wanting to do it his way. Firearm: Doubt anyone remembers this guy. From the old Ultraverse, another James Robinson created character. I was at SDCC the years this series was out (it didn't last long) and was in line to meet Robinson and Paul Smith, they were signing for their Wildstorm Chance (or whatever it was called) series. I mentioned that I loved Firearm and he appeared shocked that anyone did. At first glance seems the typical secret agent takes on superhumans, but the series was more then that. Nightcrawler: Not as big a fan when they play up the priest angle, but I always loved the heart of gold swashbuckler with the face of a demon. I'll add others later. So who are yours?

Guy Gardner. He really went against the grain of what a superhero should be like. I loved reading those stories, because you honestly never knew what GG would do in any given situation. And to this day, i still chuckle when i think about Bats clocking him.

Dr. Doom because he looks cool.
Spiderman because he's funny. Batman because he's freakin' rad. And of course Headman because he reigns supreme. |

Green Arrow.
I'm almost not sure why...he just appeals to me. I think it's because I love the idea of a 'populist' superhero, driven by rich white liberal guilt. I enjoy that he is a complex person, with many faults, who makes mistakes. Despite that, he's a good man, who strives to do what he genuinely thinks is best. And because of that innate goodness he's drawn together a 'family. Granted, he's screwed up along the way, and etc., but they work it out, like actual people. In capable hands GA is one of the most complex and intriguing characters out there.

Captain America: Never ever gives up. This is the guy you want to have your back no matter what the situation.
Flash: Love the character, always have. I especially like Wally West. I love the way DC let him grow from an immature teenager and somewhat of an obnoxious jerk into a real hero. Hawkeye: He's the guy who remembers what it was like to be a nobody and bad guy and then turn it around and be an Avenger. Other than Cap, no one realizes how awesome and important being an Avenger is. Hellboy: I guess I like him cause we all have that dark side of us, that place that somehow taints us. Plus he is just really really cool looking. Invincible: A great teenage super hero who doesn't spend all his time moaning about how much his life sucks, even though he has went through some pretty bad stuff. Superman: He is the first, the best, the Man of Steel. This is the guy who gives his all to protect the planet. |

I've always been a huge Punisher fan, something about whoopin' ass with no super powers is just a huge draw for me. And the fact that he actually kills most of his opponents just seems a little more....logical. Why fight the same dudes over, and over, and over, do it right the first time and move on to the next.

Magneto.
I think as a child I just liked his outfit and his powers. But as I got older, I appreciated his philosophical foundations. Jean Grey/Phoenix/Dark Phoenix I have a thing for redheads. I've also always liked the conflict-with-the-evil-alter-ego story elements. Mr. Sinister A super-nerd as a super-villain. I always liked his intellectual elitism and found the aesthetics of his appearance rather appealing. Deathbird I realize how many characters I like because I am fond of the way they look. But I like her attitude as well: I like violent ambitious bitches. Mystique They've watered her down over the years but I liked her for the same reason I like Deathbird AND she possesses the mutant power I'd choose if I could. The Brood Sigourney Weaver aliens with hateful personalities! What's not to love??? Emma Frost Again, watered down over the years, I preferred her as the Hellfire Club White Queen and headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy.

snake-eyes and clutch and low-light. i pretty much only purchase gi joe titles any more so this is where my list ends. i would have to give credit to spiderman for getting me into comics in the first place back in the late seventies. he also seemed very relateable to me. but now, with so many crosssovers, my pocket book just can't keep up and i have to save for alll the joe titles except the movie-verse. i also enjoy cobra commander and MISS him.
