M.A.R.S. Patrol Total War was a short-lived science fiction/war comic book series published by Gold Key Comics for 10 issues from July 1965 to August 1969. The first two issues were titled Total War. The artist on the first 3 issues was Wally Wood, who probably had a hand in creating the series.

Very interesting. I looked at what I could find of it free online and its very much in the same vein as the 80s GI Joe. A Joe fan could even look at at it as the late 60s precursor to it. The comics even have PSAs in the form of Survival tips or looks at new military tech for the time.
A lot of the vehicle designs looked straight out of 80s GI Joe but with a 60s/70s style. I wonder who owns the rights to it? The property would be great for some company to pick up and make modern media from. Comics, toys, or cartoon. Last edited by sisco; 05-08-2022 at 04:31 PM.. |

So Larry Hamma was Wally Wood's (MARS Patrols creator) assistant at one time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Hama "High-school classmate Ralph Reese, who had become an assistant to famed EC and Marvel artist Wally Wood, helped Hama get a similar job at Wood's Manhattan studio. Hama assisted on Wood's comic strips Sally Forth and Cannon, which originally ran in Military News and Overseas Weekly and were later collected in a series of books. During this time, he also had illustrations published in such magazines as Esquire and Rolling Stone, and Reese and he collaborated on art for a story in the underground comix-style humor magazine Drool #1 (1972)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_Wood "Around 1981,[47] Wood's ex-assistant Larry Hama, by then an editor at Marvel Comics, pasted up photocopies of Wood's copyrighted drawings on a single page, which Hama titled "Wally Wood's 22 Panels That Always Work!!" (It was subtitled, "Or some interesting ways to get some variety into those boring panels where some dumb writer has a bunch of lame characters sitting around and talking for page after page!") Hama left out two of the original 24 panels as his photocopies were too faint to make out some of the lightest sketches.[49] Hama distributed Wood's "elegantly simple primer to basic storytelling"[50] to artists in the Marvel bullpen, who in turn passed them on to their friends and associates.[48] Eventually, "22 Panels" made the rounds of just about every cartoonist or aspiring comic book artist in the industry and achieved its own iconic status.[50]" Last edited by sisco; 05-08-2022 at 05:58 PM.. |

To paraphrase a quote from Wally Wood to Larry Hama, "Guys like us don't retire, we drop dead at the drawing table."
