Understood. With the rising price of back issues, trades are the only practical option right now. If you didn't grab them then it would be tough to grab now. I think even a couple of the IDW trade reissues of the Marvel Joe and Transformers runs are going for a lot of cash. Classics Joe Vol 14 or 15, and TF Vol 2 I believe.

And, I keep pics like this on my phone so I don't buy duplicates or skip ahead if I'm in a brick & mortar and want to advance my reading skills:
It's tidier than keeping a worn slip of paper in my wallet that lists which Witchblade I read last, which Sojourn issue I'm missing, which ARAH or ARAH Classic I need next...and I'm not ashamed of my spreadsheet library. Quote:
I voted digital, because the likelihood of a drunken roommate taking a "shower bath", falling asleep, flooding the apartment, and not only soaking the poor woman downstairs, but turning my TMNT #1 and 1st apps. of Apocalypse and Gambit into a big pulpy sponge before fleeing to LA to avoid actually having to pay for any damage is significantly lower.
Still possible, I suppose, but I'd say that the odds are definitely less.

I can still read an old 4-color under a bedsheet if I wanted to like I did when I was 6. Same with Manga. If I did that with a modern comic, I wouldn't be able to read anything as the light bounced off the shiny-ass pages and all I would see is one big shiny spot. I feel bad for people who are willing to put up with this literal glaring problem because of an emotional attachment to a format that no longer physically resembles what they remember other than on general concept. I understand that some of this is for the sake of preventing degradation and maintaining durability, but it sucks that comics (like everything else) have become more about the consumption and hoarding of objects rather than the enjoyment of them. |

My University tried to get us to do our homework online, among other things. I didn't do well.
I was a contractor doing a job at Baker College (cooking school). Noticed that in the kitchen we were working in the MSDS could be accessed online. They had the space for MSDS, but it was taken up by laminated piece of paper that shows what link to go to on the .edu. Silly. While not quite the same, physical comics, "analog" we'll call them, are better. I do wish they'd go back to printing them on newsprint paper. Comics are stupid expensive these days. |

Yeah, I?d have to agree with this. The only time it has really been an annoying issue is when I?ve tried to take a quick pic of a page to post online.

They are so hyper-focused on saturation and black levels, and being able to show 'dark' panels without having to change their style (where 95% of the panel is black), creating a shiny black surface for light to reflect off of, and a problem that didn't need to exist. All for something you're likely to read once, maybe twice. Now we have $5.00+ comics that aren't worth the paper they're printed on. A lot of this could be solved by moving away from heavy black lines around everything and actually working with the medium instead of fighting it, but god forbid anyone tell the artists how to do their job. I had several Marvel comics in my aforementioned longbox that brand new had the pages stuck together there were so many layers of ink. I'm going to remain a bottom-feeder with my sub-$10 expenditure to Comixology until something changes and let other people foot the bill for the creative stuff for now. If the format dies, it dies, but as far as I'm concerned, the physical format was dead when they moved away from halftoning and dithers 20 years ago. |

Talking about light source now?
I prefer physical. Something about holding a crisp new comic in your hand. Not to mention having miles and miles of long boxes.
