Some really awesome points from everyone.
I slightly lean more towards Batman. The fact that he has no powers is why I like him. The gadgets, the car, the lair are all cool as f***. He also has my favorite rouges gallery. The '92 Bruce Timm series is my definitive take (didn't care for the later redesigns). |

The new movie feels like it's made for a new audience and, despite Mr. Timm's involvement, I'm not sure I'll watch this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1468159...=nm_flmg_prd_1 |

I meant the new live-action film. His books are still worth a fortune, but I don't think he was PC-enough for the era. Much like the way that Zarana almost had a nude scene in the GI Joe movie, there was a racy moment in one of the Christmas episodes where more of Barbara is seen changing into her Batgirl costume than the censors liked. His pinup books indulge that side of his humor/talents much further.

I feel like anyone who is going to watch a Batman movie already knows his origins and doesn't need to see it yet again. Same with Spidey. Same with Supes. And, the costumes in this new Batman film look uninspired. Nolan's insistence on realism took away some of the wonder, but I'd have loved to see Tim Burton direct one of Nolan's first two scripts.

Good thoughts. None I can object to. Spidey has some good villains. I think my interest waned when Batman started being presented as only the Dark Knight. I like blue/gray Batman, and I am a huge fan of Michael Keaton's Batman. But, the way some arcs have pushed the idea that he's out of control, etc., is just not my cuppa. And, it's lazy writing that reduces BW to a mere facade. The moment they did that, they took away the core of his journey as a hero. Even the animated features have reduced the character to a mere shell. It feels like the writers have bought another writer's idea of what Batman has to be and they refuse to deviate from that idea (at best).

I really liked Begins, but pretty much thoroughly disliked the rest of Nolan’s trilogy. He kind of got lost up his own ass half way through.

The character has been through the ringer since the early 90's and changed quite a bit, but Spider-Man is my preference. He's probably the nicest super-hero around and, if they were real, he'd be the one I'd want to save me from a burning building.
I find his origin story to be not just the best "origin story", but the best super-hero comic story, period. If any dorky kid got super-powers, they'd probably want to make money as a pro wrestler or perform on a crappy TV show. Then the whole "responsibility" thing kicks in and it's an amazingly powerful and relatable story. In the comics, they've tried to make him too serious since the 90's, though, and it's lost a lot of the character's appeal.
