Having read the entire Marvel run multiple times, I felt LH/Marvel never regained the storytelling intensity/momentum we saw in the 60-67 issues (rescuing Stalker, QK & Snow Job). That was top-tier Joe storytelling. When ninjas and space-Joes became the feature, and the quality of art began to shift, I lost interest.

He completely lost the story (for me) shortly after issue 200. All the mistakes in continuity, the pathetic way he killed Snake-eyes. The introduction of the two unnecessary replacements. His forgetfulness of who's still in the land of the living, his general disregard for coherent story telling. I love what he did in the past, but currently he can take his book and shove it up his ass.

We can't compare experiences with transparency but I was as much a 7-year-old as every other 7-year-old who grew up before me and think that my immersion level in the series was as deep. I didn't get into superhero comics until three years later because they were too unrealistic for me and I only wanted military realism. Luckily I actually came on board during a high-water mark for realism in the comic. Quote:
People at this moment in time might not like some of Larry's decisions but I generally do. I'm not looking at this title as a toy brand marketing comic, I read it as a creator-oriented title. I'm a huge comic collector, I have a massive collection. Most of my favorite comics are all single-writer epics, and I consider this modern era of the GiJoe title to be on par with titles like Savage Dragon, Cerebus, and Strangers in Paradise. It is an amazing feat for one creator, and the era of the story we are in now is allowing Larry to write it without having to take orders from Hasbro. He's free. Many of his newer characters have turned out well. He has deepened the Arashikage family and legend, added to the military lore, and examined many of the forgotten Cobra characters from the 80s I would have liked to see. He is also examining topics which give us more insight into him as a writer, such as his interest in post-humanism and continuing the cycles of redemption of many of the gray characters. Quote:
I don't find Sean and Dawn to be unnecessary, I think their existence elevates Snake-Eyes to a higher level of comic character lore. Sean is frequently shown to not be on Snake-Eyes' level of skill, almost every time he shows up. So that gives us a chance to see a humanized, more baseline-human version of Snake-Eyes. Plus, he's insecure. Really, every time he communicates something it's generally about not feeling confident. That's really cool to me. And I think that Dawn is very interesting. There's still a lot of room to go with her. She has only been on two or three Joe missions so far. Storm Shadow, Zartan, Scarlett, and Stalker have never been written as strongly before as they are now I feel. It's a good time. Now if we can just tie up the Blue Ninja storyline with their next appearance...

Is G.I. Joe: Declassified any good? It seems Hama wrote this for DDP around 2006.

It was a good story so were Scarlett Declassified and Snake-eyes Declassified although I could have lived without the whole Cobra Commander plot. The only one I'm alittle iffy on WAS Dreadnok's Declassified. I mean who gives a shit About Zarana and Zandar

I've been trying to hunt down the smaller Joe stories Hama had written between the 1982 and 2010 ARAH runs. Here's what I've managed to acquire:
Frontline (DDP) Declassified (DDP) Origins (IDW) I know he did a Storm Shadow series, but I'm into the ninja stuff. Anything else I've missed? |

Do you count the mini comics that came with the G.i.JOE VS. COBRA He wrote 10 of those. 14 new stories for the 25th anniversary 2 packs.
