I'm thinking of picking-up more of the rest Chuck Dixon's Joe series (have only read volume 1). Do you guys feel it's worth it?

I will say I liked his early run much better than Hama's ARAH revival. I still think the best modern Joe is the Costa/Gage Cobra minis, but that's all a matter of taste, really.

For me when I go back a reread it I stop at issue #22. That's right before M.A.S.S. Destruction so that's my cutoff. The storyline in #23 starts off okay, but quickly became something I wasn't into. (I dropped the book 3 issues later) However, you may like it just fine. Not sure where the collected editions break so I have no idea where you've read up til.
Dixon is a really good writer, but he also tends to favor really broken overpowered (bestestevar!)characters. Helix was a lot like Bane in that way. The story and newer cast of characters being brought in was already starting to lose me and once she showed up it was clear we were getting back into Bane kind of territory with her. So I dipped. That's just my personal taste in comic writing and Dixon in particular. Some people love Bane and Dixon and can't get enough of him.

Towards the end of Reloaded's run, a Joe mainstay turns traitor and joins Cobra (which made the series feel even more like the Ultimate comics at the time in how swerves with established characters would be handled). It honestly left me wanting more, but evidently sales were not up to par. C'est la vie. |

Its probably been a good 5-8 years since I've read Reloaded, but I remember thinking it was pretty good. You can tell that the series took inspiration from Marvel Comics' Ultimate line of books at the time, and had a pretty solid start.

The only non-Hama Joe stories I own are the Dark Horse mini-series and IDW's Cobra mini-series (very opposite ends of the story-telling spectrum). I thought about continuing with Dixon's series, but that seems to have mixed reviews. |
