Hi, folks
Long-time collector here of Marvel's ARAH series. I have the entire 155-issue run, along with all of the newer issues from IDW 156 & up. Additionally, I have all the Special Missions, Yearbooks, and other limited series. That being said, I am wayyy behind on reading the current issues. Very out of touch with the current story, but I've never waivered at going to my local comic shop and emptying my pull-box as necessary. My question is regards to some of the side series. I'm trying to gain a better understanding of the Hama-verse with regards to the Origins, Declassified, and Frontline series. Are these three series canon to Larry Hama's ARAH? |

I believe the titles you reference are stand alone, with only the current ARAH (obviously) being the canon storyline.

As far as Frontline, those issues Hama wrote could work as canon with his current ARAH, since they take place not long after issue 155.
Origins would not work since it's in the IDW continuity. That being said, I wonder why IDW didn't make Origins their main series. Those five issues Hama wrote were great. He could've continued on that story without the shackle of an out of date continuity. I have Declassified on the way... |

I'm sure there are discrepancies with ARAH that undo some of its own canon.

That's the case if you just stick strictly to ARAH since Larry didn't have a "script bible" for ARAH. He was just winging it. He couldn't remember which Joes he had killed. He killed Sneak Peek in Marvel's ARAH but had him come back to the Joes after being on a deep-cover mission in IDW ARAH. This was after Dusty had carried his dead body across miles of desert in the Marvel run.

My gripe is mainly with IDW. It was a crappy idea to saddle LH with the old continuity. The stuff he wrote for Origins was great. THAT should've been the new G.I. Joe. Damn ninjas. |

My likely unpopular opinion is that IDW wants the $$ that G.I. Joe brings in but that they actually dislike G.I. Joe because of what it represents. Not that they'll say this in public. They'll fund their preferred projects off the revenue that the Joes bring in for as long as they can bleed a stone.
