I have had the first two trades for years. I tried reading the first one, I did not care for it. I got about 3 issues in and found it pretty boring. I didn't feel the characters had much personality yet and there wasn't a 'wow' factor to keep me in. Conversely, what I've been able to get of DDP I really enjoyed, especially the one shots about Zanya and Stalker's family.
Reading this thread has made me want to go back and stick with Marvel till the issues called out here, 12 and 21, when it gets 'good'. Quite a lot to read till it sucks you in though. |

Yes that was a definite peak for me. Then the return of the real Cobra Commander was good, Benzheen war stuff was great, then I think after that the series declined for me. Haven't read past #130 or so.

By the way, even though I haven't actually read issue 155 (can't get past freakin' #130, gah), I found the "Letter From Snake Eyes" from #155 especially poignant and touching. If you haven't given this a listen, you should:

The Marvel comics and trading cards were my go to for joe knowledge and source back in the 80’s. Such a perfect series. Totally canon.
You read these then watch the cartoon you realize a huge difference. You realize you appreciate the cartoon just for your love for GI Joe.

Add issue 10 ("A Nice Little Town...") to the highlights and keys. Really established Cobra and distinguished them from being the typical "80's toy-line bad guys". They didn't live in a scary battle station, creepy castle or mountain lair. They were hiding in plain sight, in suburban America.

I loved 1-75, but too many new characters and vehicles ruined it for me. I found 100-155 mostly unreadable.

Yeah I agree. The callous way they killed Breaker off panel with a throw away new Cobra trooper was ridiculous.
