I found this article on a comic book price guide website:
"A CGC-certified 9.8 copy of G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero #21 featuring the first appearance of Snake Eyes sold for $3,050 on eBay after receiving 22 bids. The CGC Census notes a total of 259 certified copies with four copies tied as the highest graded in 9.8. The book has always been a favorite with collectors, but the comic book title is seeing additional interest due to the upcoming film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." Here is the link: ComicsPriceGuide.com News | G.I. Joe #21 CGC 9.8 Sells For Record $3,050 Can anybody verify this or provide a link to the auction? This is incredible.

Snake Eyes appeared in Issue 1. I don't know why it claims Issue 21 (Silent Issue) was his first appearance.

Sorry, my thread should have said issue 21. This is the 'Silent Issue.'

I have only 1 copy and it looks like it was rolling around in the street for a few days...I had to pay $4.00 bucks for it.
Supply & demand. This was Storm Shadow's first app.

Ridiculously high price to pay for a comic that's not all that rare if you ask me. A non-slabbed near-mint copy of issue #21 would normally cost anywhere between $180 to $280.
CGC-grading is of dubious value. It only takes one customer willing to pay an exorbitant price for a relatively pedestrian article to validate and legitimize the artifical price inflation that can and does happen with CGC-graded items. Last edited by zuludelta; 05-10-2009 at 05:22 AM.. |

I've never understood the collector market for comics beyond wanting to have the stories. I suppose its like toys, but its just not my thing to buy something meant for enjoyment and squirel it away to get more money for it years later.
If you want the story so baddly, get the trade. Just my .02 |

I have that issue. Picked it up when it first came out. Looking at that price I am tempted to sell it now. $3000.00, wow.

Yes, me too. I could complete my figure collection in no time with that kind of money.
