Well I got issue #1 in today and already read thru it. Before I get into what I think of it, I'll post what the synopsis is. This is from the inside cover.
"Five years after the dead first walked new York has become a fortress of isolation against the undead plague. The militaristic forces of mayor chandrake keep the streets relatively safe and the survivors enjoy gladiatorial games in which captured zombies fight for food. Penny Jones, a medical scientist, teams up with a skeptical zombie wrangler named Paul Barnum to find a way to tame the undead, namely one called Xavier, a captured zombie who exhibits intelligence. But zombies aren't the only monstrous threat to NYC. The city's elite, including mayor chandrake, are also another form of the undead... vampires! But there is dissension in the ranks. Austerity has caused the vampires to live off rat blood, but some, including councilman chilly Dobbs, believe the elders aren't living within the same constrictions as the rest..." First things first...I'm a huge Romero fan. Having said that I'm a little shocked that vampires made it into this genre, especially with Romero being the writer. I can accept the "smarter" zombies, but I have a hard time with vampires. But as often times I'm in the position of "well it hasn't sucked too bad thus far" state of mind. I'm not going to go thru the entire issue, but I will say I enjoyed it. Zombies are a big thing these days especially with the G.I. Joe Collector's Club release of the zombie initiative set...insert chuckle. Anyways it was a good read and I'm looking forward to the next issue, so if ya like Romero or the undead in general check it out (with Dr Steve Brule, don't be a hunk ya dangus...). if you have read it and liked, disliked, or are indifferent post reply, I'm curious as to what others think of it.
