-There's nothing that seems to "grab" me. The characters don't seem interesting and it's more than a little disappointing that the biggest threat they present to the team is a buncha' drone robots.
-The "cliffhanger" is Duke and pals driving through a minefield. To me, that's neither interesting or threatening. Tossing someone out of a plane is a decent cliffhanger...but driving a dune buggy through a robot minefield isn't. -Part of the plot falls into the old Action Movie Cliche of the labyrinth ventilation system! -I won't go on about how the shortened names are grating on me. Rat! Scars! Beach! -The Baroness and Destro plot doesn't look promising. It's almost inevitable that they'll hook up, in some form or another. -The "Scottish" dialogue...but you probably already guessed that I wasn't fond of that.

I'm very disappointed in the main GI Joe title so far and in Dixon in particular. He's always been one of my favourite comic book writers, one whose socio-political views I can happily abide because of the strength of his comics work (unlike, say, Frank Miller or Dave Sims). It seems he's trying to recreate the feel of the early Joe comics, but something's not clicking with the dialogue, and the art, competent as it is, just isn't my cup of tea. I just read through the first 4 issues again to get a better sense of the book but all I came away with is the impression that it's all content and no context. Maybe the property just doesn't mesh well with his creative instincts. All that being said, I've been enjoying GI Joe: Cobra and GI Joe: Origins so far, so IDW's batting a good percentage with me (2 out of 3's not bad). |

it's not as bad as that, to me. we should give it more than 4 issues.
the stuff i don't like has already been built into it... the broadcast energy transmitter... the mass device... throw that in with the duke / scarlett in leiu of scarlett / snake eyes and i am just waiting for the Pyramid of Doom and the Weather Dominator. i understand that Dixon wanted to avoid using Snake Eyes as much as the Marvel run did...but this is kind of ridiculous. he's the most popular character. he should be in there more than he is. that being said, i don't want it to be the GI Joe: featuring Snake Eyes book. just a little more.

point taken...and obviously taken to heart by chuck dixon.
thing is...you can do snake eyes...and even with the ninja stuff, WITHOUT all the ninja voodoo stuff. that didn't come into play until storm shadow pulled the 'sleeping phoenix' around 45 or so of the marvel run.

Issue 155 was the last issue of gi joe. Anything after that doesn't exist.

I agree, I thought Snake Eyes was well written until about issue 55 when all the mystic ninja majik came into play. The Commando SE would be welcome but Im afraid we wont see it. I would love to see Storm Shadow toned down a bit too, no mind melds or Sleeping Pheonix(I thougt that was silly and I was 8).
i thought the marvel run was strong until sometime after the Cobra Civil War. at that point, it started going down a bit, to me. but i totally feel you on the ninja majik...he could be a commando, with extensive training ( even ninja training ). hell, that's even in his file card. it just makes him a bigger BA in his role as commando with the team. to me, personally, snake eyes part on the team, original member, backstory with scarlett, was bigger than the ninja hocus pokus. the silent castle showed the ninja backstory, but it was just part of him...his storming the castle to get scarlett back was bigger than his past as a ninja clan member.
