Ya, they have trade paperbacks which are multiple issues bound together. Ebay, Amazon, maybe a local comic shop.

"Classic Gijoe" volumes 1-15 are on Amazon, I don't have ISBN numbers but as far as I know there are only set of books under that title.

Yeah, "Classic GI Joe" is the original Marvel run found on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. "GI Joe: A Real American Hero" is the continuation series, and it's in TPBs up to vol. 7 right now.

Found it..!
Now are the "complete collection" hardcover books better..? I'm going to try to convince my wife to start picking these up for me. (She gets frustrated with the figures because I tell what to pick up and then end up finding it before she does...these would give her a better chance.) BTW, thanks for the help/clarification! |

The complete collection will intersperse the Special Missions and Yearbook stories into the main title as one 'complete collection', which is the big difference. I have all the TPBs and will be getting the Complete Collection as they come out. |

Sparks is a creation of the cartoon series and doesn't appear in the comics.
the 'European Missions' stories are the Marvel UK 'Action Force Monthly' comics with a different name on the front. They contain a mixture of new material and material reprinted from the Marvel UK 'Action Force weekly' comic. These comics are ones starring the Joes and NOT the likes of Blades, Quarrel, Baron Ironblood and others you might have heard about from the Pallitoy line. They date from 1987-1989 when Hasbro was selling GI Joe in the UK under the 'Action Force' name, but with US style packaging. It doesn't make sense to try to fit them into the US continuity since they weren't supposed to be part of it. They are quite enjoyable, if short, stories though. One story, however, serves as a prequel to the animated movie and is actually, therefore, completely independent of the rest. you can read the stories over at BFTB in their comics archive. |

I had heard/surmised that Big Boa was designed to be Rocky's nemesis at Cobra. If you have a boxer, you need an opponent. So it made sense to me. As for "GI Joe: European Missions", the 15 issues that were sold in the US are not a part of the US canon. They were repackaged "UK-exclusive" stories and some were presented out-of-order. For instance, Action Force/GI Joe's liaison Trent dies in issue 2, but returns, later on. There's also a chain-of-command difference, in that Flint is definitely the head honcho. But Hawk makes an appearance as "Flint's counterpart from the US". That said, there are SOME stories in "European Missions" that an uber-fan could place in their own little chronology. Just swap out the words "Action Force" for "GI Joe" and you've got another issue of "GI Joe: Special Missions". Like an issue where Snake-Eyes fights a Cobra scientist in "the North American Rockies", or where the WHALE is on an escort mission in the Strait of Hormuz. Issue 15 also could serve as a prequel to the "Benzheen War" from the US series (most likely, it's just a coincidence).

Trent returns because, as i said, they were reprinting material from AF Weekly where Trent was alive.
